Wendy Marvell, the New MOTHER OF DRAGONS! Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapters 179 and 180 Review.
By making Enchanted Weapons, has Wendy reached the same level of power as her secret mentor Irene Belserion, the Mother of Dragons?
In the previous Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest chapter, Lucy receives the Water Dragon Key from the weakened Mercphobia while Natsu goes after Ignia, who is seeking a mysterious power, and Gray faces off against Viernes, who reveals his human form.
A Disappointing Fight
Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Chapter 179 is titled, “The True Worth of Gold”.
Released on February 18, 2025, this chapter has 19 pages.
The chapter cover shows Juvia in an Egyptian-themed outfit, notably made of mostly gold.
A Grey keychain with a pharaoh’s crown (nemes) is on her right hip.
The chapter begins with Grey using Ice Make: Freezing Lance and Ice Make: Death Scythe, both attacks turning into gold dust.
Eventually, Viernes lands a punch, which slowly turns Gray’s body into gold and weighs him down.
Gray is surprised to hear Viernes finally talk as he has always been silent since his introduction in Dragon form.
Viernes declares that it is foolish to challenge a Dragon God and uses “Gold Rush” to turn the town golden.
Viernes then fires a Gold Arrow, which involves turning anything, including the birds that flew by, into gold projectiles for Viernes to use.
But this was a distraction as the ground on Gray’s feet turns to magma or molten gold.
Gray is amazed by what Alchemy could do but also was upset by how Viernes callously used those birds.
Gray freezes the magma.
Viernes prepares to alchemize Gray but he creates an Ice Make Shield, which Viernes turns to gold as well.
Just as Gray is overwhelmed by Viernes’ Gold Arrow, Selene suddenly emerges from an Aqua Area, with Wendy and Carla dropping out of the portal too.
Wendy’s Evolution of Power
Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Chapter 180 is titled, “To the Kind Moon”
Released on March 4, 2025, this chapter has 21 pages.
The chapter cover shows Gray playing with darts.
The chapter begins with Gray wondering how Wendy got here and asks about the giant Lacrima on her end, to which Wendy said that it just suddenly vanished.
Gray tells Wendy that Viernes’ giant Lacrima is on his back but as the two prepare to team up, they see Selene attack Viernes.
Yes, they remember that the Dragon Gods do not really get along at all.
Selene casts Moonlight Shangri-La to blast Viernes away and when Selene is about to kick from behind, Viernes summons a giant golden first, which Selene dodges with her Aqua Aera that takes her to the ground next to Viernes to attack him.
Carla thinks it is a good idea to let the two Dragon Gods take out each other but Wendy reminds Carla that this would be much worse than two natural disasters coming together.
Additionally, Wendy notes that Selene is not herself right now as deep down, she is actually a kind person.
Which is an interesting observation considering her sadistic manipulation of Faris to nearly destroy Earth Land by awakening Aldoron.
Not to mention how much damage she has done to Elentir and possibly other worlds.
So, Fairy Tail has done way more sidestepping on redemption arcs than Naruto with Obito Uchiha because at least Obito committed only one genocide and did a war.
Selene was probably bathing in blood in multiple worlds.
On the other hand, she does admire humanity, not mocking their weakness or using that as a justification for harming them, which is another dichotomy.
That or Mashima still sucks at writing villains. Up to you.
Wendy activates Dragon Slayer Seal Enchantment on Gray, allowing him to land a cut on Viernes with Ice Devil’s Zeroth Long Sword while Wendy herself strikes down Selene with Sky Dragon’s Sword Horn and through a Separation Enchantment, Wendy exposed the Giant Lacrima that was somehow attached to Selene’s body.
Something she learned thanks to Gray fighting Viernes.
In her human form, Carla smashes the Lacrima with her bare hands using “White Suns” and so Selene is freed from her daze.
Since the first arc of the sequel, Wendy has the ability to Enchant Dragon Slayer magic into others, particularly with Dragon Slayer Seal, which gives bodies a temporary ability to use Dragon Slayer magic, and Magic Enchantment, the spell first used against Irene Belserion in the original series to give Erza’s swords the ability to use Dragon Slayer Magic.
Now Wendy has freed Selene and Grey is left to take on Viernes.
