Is This Random Ahh Locust Devil THE STRONGEST? Chainsaw Man Chapter 226 Review!

As Pochita is compelled by his instinct to save Yoru, Denji Man confronts the mysterious Locust Devil. Is he connected to Seraphim, Pochita’s follower, the Abyss angel Abaddon, or is he a Primal Fear, the Pestilence Devil? Maybe even the King of Locusts, Abaddon!

CHAINSAW MAN © 2018 Tatsuki Fujimoto, Shueisha

In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, Denji and Yoru enter Hell as Denji intends to find more Devils to erase.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 226 is titled, “Locust’s Home”.

This chapter has 14 pages.

The chapter begins with Denji wondering where the other Devils are but then Yoru barrages him with gunfire, throwing him to the sea in Hell.

Interestingly, Hell looks a lot different or perhaps this is another region of Hell since there are an infinite number of doors representing any Fear/Devil.

Next to Yoru is a Locust Devil, standing there, menacingly like Makima from Chapter 26: “The Gun is Mightier”.

The title, “Locust’s Home”, might indicate that Hell has become the home of this Locust Devil, a type of grasshopper that turns from a meek, solitary insect into a social, swarming destructive pest and that perhaps this Locust Devil has ruined portions of Hell.

Or that they ended up in the literal Locust’s Home located in Hell.

Denji surfaces, remarking that he would be screwed if he did not learn how to swim.

Even though this is a deathless world, drowning would still be bad as you would be stuck underwater, forever.

It seems Fujimoto might be channeling some of that Reze Arc energy from watching the movie.

Suddenly, Yoru is seen bleeding out from attacking the Locust Devil, who is also bleeding from the neck and some holes on its chest.

Denji calls this moment his “perfect plan” even though he obviously did not intend for this at all.

Now Yoru asks for Denji to save her.

“Save me, Chainsaw Man” becomes “Save me, Denji”

Because Chainsaw Man is the Hero of Hell who responds to the oppressed.

But now, in this world, it is Denji, the protagonist.

Now Yoru is trying to win over Denji’s heart and it is working, since Asa is the one in danger too.

The chapter ends with the door from Hell being kicked open and flown off as Denji Man and Locust Devil fight, with Denji’s right arm cut off while the Locust Devil stands there, still bleeding but not done yet, all the while Yoru lies down.

Is the Locust Devil the Same as Pochita’s Follower?

In Part 1, there is a recurring theme involving the Angelic hierarchy.

Beam, the Shark Fiend, is a devoted follower of “Lord Chainsaw” and represents Cherubim, the second highest in the Highest order of angels.

Galgali the Violence Fiend gets his name from the Galgalim or Ophanim, another word for Thrones, the eye-covered flaming wheels that form the Chariot of God, and the lowest of the Highest choir of angels.

Power, Denji’s friend and the Blood Fiend, obviously represents Powers or Authorities, the lowest of the Middle choir of Angels.

Three unfamiliar and new faces include Dominion and Virtue, who were fiends of unknown Devils and part of the upper ranks of the Middle choir.

Princi, the Spider Devil who acts as Makima’s taxi, represents the Principalities, the upper rank of the Lowest choir.

The Angel Devil would be in the lowest rank in the Lowest choir, representing the Guardian Angels.

There are no Archangels here it seems.

The reason they are tied together as a group is because they were all Pochita’s followers in one incarnation or another (Beam, Galgali and Angel were shown devoted to Pochita across both eras while Princi was one of Makima’s eyes and ears to watch over Denji and Power as the Blood Fiend is Denji’s close friend) and their corpses were all lined up in Chapter 83: “Death, Resurrection, Chainsaw” as well as their original allegiances revealed.

All of them followed Pochita because they were waiting for the “Day of Resurrection”, which could be referring to the return of Pochita in his full glory, something Makima shared in spite of their “differences in faith”, specifically that Makima viewed Pochita as the love of her life and wanted to use Chainsaw’s power to erase bad concepts for a perfect world.

The Locust Devil resembles Seraphim, the fiend who happens to look like a locust and the Seraphim is the highest of the Highest order, being the closest to God.

This presents an interesting dynamic because it is likely that this Locust Devil has no memories of being Pochita’s follower and is fighting him and Yoru at the same time.

Will the Locust Devil awaken and be revealed as Seraphim, the “closest” among Pochita’s followers?

This could add another contrast with Yoru, who praised how she relies on other people to maintain her power over the concept of War in Chapter 220: “Love and Michigan”

Yoru has many allies, including her favorite Moray Eel Devil.

If this battle does lead to the return of Pochita’s Angels, does this mean we will see the return of the Blood Devil as well?

The Ten Plagues of Egypt

There is a theory going around that Chainsaw Man Part 2 not only references the coming of the Four Horsemen, based on the order of their appearances but also the Ten Plagues of Egypt.

Two Devils represent two of the Plagues in Part 1, the first plague, Blood (Power), flowing in the River Nile, and the ninth plague, Darkness for three days.

In Part 2, we also have a Frog Devil to represent the second plague, the invasion of frogs, but even then, the Darkness Devil also uses frogs to represent the Egyptian god of darkness, Kek, and the theme of fear of the unknown.

The Locust Devil could represent not only the eighth plague but also the third and fourth plague: gnats of dust and teems of flies respectively.

Nayuta’s death would symbolize the final plague, the Death of the Firstborn and it ties to Nayuta being the young Control Devil and the shift of Part 2’s story to deeper tragedy like how the Gun Devil Arc was for Part 1.

Bucky the Chicken’s death at the start of Part 2 and Famine’s arrival, sucking the life out of some students as a mode of salvation, represent the fifth plague: pestilence of livestock.

The Falling Devil’s arrival, the advent of the Death Devil’s arrival, ties into the seventh plague: the storm of hail.

There is a fifth Horseman that sometimes takes the place of Conquest (Control: Makima and Nayuta) and that is Pestilence, who also bears Conquest’s White Horse.

Could the Locust Devil be much more and is in fact the Pestilence Devil?

Somehow, this Devil was able to overcome Yoru the War Devil, who is at her peak right now.

It is tempting to consider the possibility that the Locust Devil might be a Primal Fear since all living things fear sickness and sickness makes them weak.

This could very well also fulfill the last remaining of the Ten Plagues, the sixth plague, the infection of boils.

Coincidentally, this is Chapter 226 but that may not be much.

Is Plague in a Deathless World Fami’s Endgame?

Some might go as far as see the Locust Devil or Pestilence Devil as the means for Death’s “reinvention” or “reincarnation”.

If humans are able to rediscover, by accident, the means to recreate nuclear weapons, can Devils also reinvent a new mode of dying in a deathless world?

Another possibility is that the Locust Devil could empower the real Fami, who has yet to be seen since Chapter

Considering she was introduced so late, will Fujimoto actually pull a Zetsu move and make her the real final villain or will she be an Adramelech from Black Clover and actually not be all that relevant until the very very end?

Alternatively, the Locust Devil could be Abaddon, a fallen angel of the Abyss, the king of locusts.

So many theories, so little time.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 227 will be released on January 21, 2026.
