Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss Yoru! Chainsaw Man Chapter 203 Review

Will Denji abandon his humanity to save the world or is the world cooked?

CHAINSAW MAN © 2018 Tatsuki Fujimoto, Shueisha

In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, the Fake Chainsaw Man merges with the crowd to regenerate his body.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 203 is titled, “Human Shield”

Released on March 20, 2025, this chapter has 15 pages.

The chapter begins with the human shields on the Fake Chainsaw Man’s arms expressing pain from being used.

The humans beg Chainsaw Man to release them, even how the fighting is causing one of the men’s ears to have dirt inside.

The men tell Denji that when he dodges the punches, it hurts them due to the strain of flexing the mass of humans.

Denji complains, asking if he needs a cushion.

They then have an idea, to aim for the faker’s heart, like in a video game but Denji wonders if that means the minions (the humans) will disappear.

A woman complains about them being thought of as the monster’s minions but Denji says she is missing the point as the Fake attacks again, landing a punch.

Denji uses this as a chance to walk on the arm and reach for the Fake Chainsaw Man’s exposed chest.

Suddenly, a man pops out of the chest, which makes Denji hesitate and allow the Fake Chainsaw Man to punch him through a building.

We see Yoru emerge but notice that she is not shaded and, with her hair down, alongside her words and distance, makes her resemble Makima.

This emphasizes how much of an influence Makima continues to have on Denji, as if she was a dark maternal figure/

Yoru tells Denji that if he hesitates, he cannot win.

Denji worries that if he kills them, there will be fewer people who will like him.

This is base morality from someone with a poor background like Denji yet it is quite understandable.

Denji’s motivation has to be live the good life and to not be alone.

He likes being a hero because he is less lonely that way, which justifies the reflex to respect life.

Something a Devil like Yoru would lack.

Yoru then says that even if he saves them, Denji will be forgotten, just as Asa, a popular girl, was forgotten after she died and was brought back.

As Yoru attempts to over Denji a hand, the building they were on suddenly levitates as the Falling Devil makes the upper half of the building fall on the doomed crowd, even with the actual Famine Devil among them.
