The Fake Chainsaw Man Merger! Chainsaw Man Chapters 201 and 202 Review!
Chainsaw Man heads into a grotesque direction with the fake Chainsaw Man as we might have seen the true power of the Fire Devil
In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, Denji faces off against the Fake Chainsaw Man!
Chainsaw Man Chapter 201 is titled, “Terror Looks Like This”
This chapter has 14 pages.
The chapter begins with the real Fami (not our Fami/Death) throwing pebbles at passers-by but this only just annoys them.
The naive Horseman has no idea that mere annoyance cannot produce terror.
The Falling Devil, who is apparently more mature than this Horseman Devil, squishes her cheeks and tells her that this is not what terror looks like.
We cut back to the fight between Denji and the Fake Chainsaw Man, where we suddenly see everyone being spun around, courtesy of the Falling Devil’s gravity powers.
Denji attempts to save a woman, which is a good way to call out the Fake Chainsaw Man’s false accusations, as Denji reacts immediately.
However, Yoru simply shoots her arm off, letting her fly away, and laughs at what happened.
Although Denji remarks on how cute Yoru looks, this does not sit well with him as he remembers now that she is a Devil.
Do You Want to Come At Me?
Chapter 202 is titled, “Devil Combination”
This chapter has 15 pages.
In English, the line “Do you want to come at me?” is an invitation to fight, which is similar to the Spanish version.
In the Japanese, it implied that she wanted Denji to kiss her or more
This line by Yoru gets lost in translation because in the original Japanese, it is intentionally vague, highlighting Yoru’s complex desires and how toxic their dynamic is.
However, she does cooperate and fires a blast at the Fake Chainsaw Man, who dodges.
After throwing some rubble, Denji cuts through the faker and remove his arms as the latter wonders if the duo faked their disagreement but Denji clarifies that she is just that crazy
A Chilling New Power Reveals the True Nature of the Fire Devil
Before Yoru can finish the faker off, someone flies in front of him but this does not feel like the work of the Falling Devil.
We are witnessing some body horror as the people converge and…merge with the Fake Chainsaw Man, akin to how the White Zetsu Army from Naruto are able to merge into one giant Zetsu to protect themselves.
The people remark on how…cold they feel.
This is confirmation of the true nature of the Fire Devil.
People fear fire yet they also desire is warmth but when they reach the Fake Chainsaw Man, they still feel the cold and are unable to escape the body merging.
By providing warmth, the Fake Chainsaw Man makes himself a “hero” who provides justice yet this exact act is intentionally used by the faker to make Denji look bad, by making him attack strangers.
On two fronts, Denji has an ally who does not care about human lives and an enemy who is exactly the same, with Denji being the only one in this street, probably even in the entire world at this point, who values life in spite of its meaninglessness, which could yet again provide Death/Fami the meaningful resolution she has been seeking.
Without knowing it, she has given Denji the means to further give value to the concept of life that she never saw any value in prior.
This whole ordeal is terrifying as Denji now has to kill innocents who cannot escape in order for him to stop the Fake Chainsaw Man.
Denji dodges the punch from the larger arm, which hurts one of the men being merged.
The Fake Chainsaw Man fight being the prologue to the ongoing Death Devil Arc is a neat test of Denji’s morals as he now sees that a hypocritical fake parading his name is merely using civilians for nourishment and pushes him to kill more people, when this is not Denji’s fault.
How will Denji be able to kill this being?
Can the Gun Devil even be enough, assuming blowing off the faker’s head can do the trick at all?
