NEW Details on the Naruto Live-Action Movie Garners Mixed Responses
Has the live-action Naruto already betrayed Kishimoto’s vision or will this actually fulfill it?
On October 3, 2026, we got more potential details regarding the Naruto live-action by Destin Daniel Cretton.
With claims that the adaptation will be faithful to the source material, the film will focus on the Land of Waves arc, with ‘Naruto: Mission to the Land of Waves’ being considered as the title.
Furthermore, the main characters remain 12–13 years old.
• Sakura is more powerful from the start and already has her abilities.
• Naruto has a strong interest in ninja history.
• Sasuke has feelings for Sakura; Naruto doesn’t.
• Sakura comes from wealth. Her father died in Kurama’s attack, and her mother is portrayed as snobbish.
• Becoming a Jinchuriki requires a specific bloodline. Naruto inherits his mother’s, making him the only viable host for Kurama as she is dying.
Previously last September 28th, we had an initial synopsis revealing that Naruto will be treated as a more gifted ninja
There are also whispers of the movie series reaching 8 movies: 4 per Part.
The Good

The initial synopsis mentions ninjas being a goal for children in the Leaf Village makes sense as it did in the manga but should be not be wholly viewed by the audience as positive messaging because ninjas are child soldiers.
During the Kana event in France in August 2024, the author Masashi Kishimoto expressed wanting to change Sakura
I would have liked to delve deeper into the character of Sakura Haruno. She’s the only one whose parents weren’t actually drawn. I should’ve talked about them earlier in the story, but I missed the chance. And it became too complicated to do so in the middle and at the end of the story. In the movie version, I showed her parents a little. But in the main story, I would’ve liked to develop a scene centered around Sakura’s family.
The Mixed

With that being said, Sakura having her own set of abilities becomes a problem when we consider her overall journey.
In the original material, Sakura was only known for her academic standing and excellent chakra control, only developing her unique abilities through tutelage with Tsunade, who applied her chakra control talent through Medical Ninjutsu and physical strength.
However, this could be part of Kishimoto’s intended rewrite for Sakura, where she could apply her innate chakra control somewhere else, assuming that is still in play.
The line about specific bloodlines is interesting because it is a tradition for the Jinchuriki to be related to the Kage.
That being said, in Naruto, the term “special bloodline” refers to Kekkei Genkai, so some fans worry that jinchuriki need Kekkei Genkai since three of the Tailed Beasts possess Kekkei Genkai, namely One Tails Shukaku’s Magnet Style, Four Tails Son Goku’s Lava Style, Five Tails Kokou’s Steam Style.
It so happened that the latest jinchuriki for these three are related of Kage, with Gaara born to the Kazekage Clan’s Magnet Style and both Roshi and Han likely being from the Tsuchikage’s family by virtue of said established tradition.
Surprisingly, there are plenty of fans who dislike this addition to the early story, as it feels like another attempt to contradict the perceived core theme of “hard work” trumping talent, even if this effort is done to make the Jinchuriki concept more naturally integrated into Part 1’s lore.
Sasuke has gradually developed feelings for
However, this also leans too close to his characterization as a playboy in the Limited Tsukuyomi dream and betrays one of the earliest bits of characterization: Sasuke’s empathy for Naruto.
Early on, when Naruto had disguised himself as Sasuke to flirt with Sakura, the real Sasuke appears inbetween, looking for Naruto, and Sakura mocks Naruto for not having parents, which triggers Sasuke’s outrage.
Sakura losing a family member would require her to have some baseline empathy for orphans like Naruto, who are poor and deprived as a result of their conditions.
Or perhaps she could come off as an even bigger hypocrite by treating Sasuke more normally.
There is no mention of how Sakura views Naruto.
Perhaps all these changes are an attempt to clean up Sakura’s image, which has been pervaded by her mean-spirited approach to Naruto or being “useless” on the battlefield.
The Concerning

Naruto’s character here is quite a 180 in terms of interests.
Being a “nerd” of history would completely ruin his origin as the son of the Fourth Hokage who was unaware of his origins.
There was only a 12-year gap since Minato Namikaze’s death, not to mention that the Uzumaki Clan are well-known as an extinct clan of experts in Sealing.
There is even an Uzumaki temple in the Leaf Village Orochimaru visits.
Naruto’s lineage is so tied to history that him being a history nerd would feel so off as (1) he would have already known about his family because he is much more booksmart in the live-action and (2) this betrays an actual bit of writing and characterization in the original material, that he is fairly detached from that history personally in spite of his and Sasuke’s destinies being the central lore of the series.
He feels more like his Limited Tsukuyomi counterpart, Menma and like his own father Minato than Naruto, a prankster who was ostracized by the village.
If he had Itachi’s mindset of understanding the world’s history as a child but with the circumstances of a Jinchuriki, yes even those aware of their Kage lineage, then they should make sure those two sides do not get lost and can in fact work together.
Perhaps Naruto’s interest in history comes from his longing to know about his parents, a secret kept by the Third Hokage and the mean-spirited village for his safety and suffering respectively.
However, this still runs the risk of losing his dense charm, something a lot of manga protagonists, especially his counterpart from One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy, has in abundance and live-action Luffy is as much of an idiot as he is in the original manga, not to mention how both adaptations are said to have the creator’s direct involvement (with Kishimoto, we do not have a lot of information outside of his own statements and presence with Cretton).
