Naruto To Announce a Major Project on 27th Anniversary
With this surprising news regarding another Naruto film, this time animated, some fans theorize that the planned 4-episode special could have been remade into a feature film.
On August 20, 2026, it was announced that a new Naruto anime film project will be announced on Naruto Day at New York Comic Convention on October 10.
This report comes from Variety about the series upcoming panel.
This panel features the main Japanese voice actors for Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, Junko Takeuchi and Noriaki Sugiyama, alongside Yoshihiko Tominaga (Executive Producer at Studio Pierrot) and a representative from Bandai.
To note, October 10 is the birthday of the eponymous main protagonist.
This will be the first Naruto-related film since Boruto: Naruto the Movie released on August 7, 2015.
This is likely to replace the four-episode new Naruto series for the anime’s 20th anniversary.
First announced on March 2023 by Studio Pierrot, the special short series was originally set to air on September 3, 2026.
This project was then scheduled on December 25, 2026 to be released in late 2026.
Now it appears that the October 10th announcement will provide one more revised date.
There are still no plot details regarding the film.
This is an interesting development since another major project for the franchise is the upcoming live-action film by Destin Daniel Cretton, the acclaimed director behind two Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hits, Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings (2021) and the 4th MCU Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), which is now the highest-grossing Spider-Man film and US film to date.
Naruto celebrates its 27th anniversary as the manga first released Chapter 1: “Naruto Uzumaki!!” on September 21, 1999.
