Nerona Imu vs Scopper Gaban Begins! One Piece Chapter 1189 Full Spoilers!
Axe on axe showdown! Scopper Gaban meets his greatest challenge yet, facing the King of the World, Nerona Imu, to protect Luffy.
In the previous One Piece chapter, Imu stabs Luffy with the Bohu sword, similar to Luffy’s first defeat at the hands of Crocodile.
One Piece Chapter 1189 is titled “The King of the World”
This chapter has 17 pages.
Three Wise Monkeys
Cover Page Request: “The mischievous See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil monkeys* being scolded by Nami while kneeling in seiza*.”*
On the cover page, three monkeys (representing the Three Wise Monkeys) that resemble Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji are being scolded by Nami for getting mud on the clothes she hung out to dry.
TRANSLATION NOTE:
The Three Wise Monkeys are a traditional Japanese pictorial maxim that embodies the proverb “See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil.” The three monkeys are:
Mizaru — “See No Evil” (covers its eyes)
Kikazaru — “Hear No Evil” (covers its ears)
Iwazaru — “Speak No Evil” (covers its mouth)
On the cover page:
Monkey Zoro represents Iwazaru, covering his mouth.
Monkey Luffy represents Mizaru, striking his iconic Gear 5 laughing pose with one hand on his forehead, the other on his belly, and his eyes closed.
Monkey Sanji represents Kikazaru, covering his ears.
Monkey Zoro and Monkey Sanji are sitting in the seiza position, but Monkey Luffy isn’t, because he’s doing his Gear 5 laughing pose. LOL.
Seiza is the traditional formal Japanese sitting posture in which a person kneels with the tops of their feet flat on the floor and sits on their heels.
In Japanese culture, being made to sit in seiza as punishment while being scolded is a common trope, especially in manga and anime.
Because it is a very confining position, sitting in seiza for an extended period can cause numbness in the legs and feet.
Crucified by Devilish Swords
Editor’s note: “What’s Luffy fate after taking a hit from Imu?!”
The chapter starts with Imu pinning Luffy to the tree with 1 sword, and Luffy is spitting much blood from his mouth.
It seems Usopp has used Observation Haki to sense Luffy in trouble.
Nami is angry with worry over what is happening with Luffy and while she assures herself Luffy will be fine, Jinbe tells them that their enemy defeated Loki.
Loki tries to speak to Jinbei but can barely utter a word and it seems Jinbe is finishing Loki’s sentences, that Luffy’s Haki has greatly weakened.
Meanwhile, Brook grabs a hold of the unfrozen Princess Shuri but she is still unconscious.
Ragnir tries to corner Shuri and Usopp comes in, thinking she is still dangerous but suddenly, Hajrudin’s crew comes in on their Sval, crashing on top of Loki and causing Hajrudin to be thrown off while Gerd is protected by Chopper’s Guard Point.
Gerd hugs the giant fluffball Chopper, finding him to be adorable and dependable.
Gerd checks on Loki’s injuries but Loki shouts at her, saying they made his injuries worse.
Not the first time.
Hajrudin recalls what Jarul told him, that it is pointless to put up a fight and he should go to Loki.
Hajrudin worries about the kids but Jarul says that saving the children is just step 1 but there is a real problem.
Jarul is puzzled that the recently-concluded Reverie would decide on mounting an invasion of Elbaph and thinks it is the work of the being that possessed Imu.
Hajrudin asks Loki if he knows who Jarul is talking about and Loki says he does somewhat.
Meanwhile, Imu pins Luffy to a withered tree with the Vohu sword, which drains life.
From his ring of black fire, he summons a new sword, Fragarach, the Sword of the Sea God, which likely nullifies Devil Fruit powers due to its sea-related properties.
Imu brings up Luffy’s detestable full name and his two “uncouth” older brothers: one killed by the Marines (Ace), and another who made a name for himself in the Revolutionary Army
Imu brings out a third weapon, Xingtian, the “Axe of Heavenly Punishment”!
Translation Note: The kanji for the weapon’s name is 「刑天の斧」. The furigana provides the reading of the kanji, not the weapon’s actual name.
The 「刑天」 kanji refers to the Chinese deity Xingtian, who fought against the Supreme Divinity and refused to surrender even after being decapitated.
After his defeat, his head was buried in Changyang Mountain. Nevertheless, headless, with a shield in one hand and a battle axe in the other, he continued fighting, using his nipples as eyes and his navel as a mouth.
King of the World
The dogma of equality is unveiled for its hypocrisy.
Loki recalls the aftermath of the fight where Loki killed Harald in Chapter 1171: “Ragnir”.
While sharing his sentiments since Harald is also his friend, Shanks tells Loki not to try and attack the World Government immediately, saying that the Elbaph operation was merely preparation and therefore Loki and Elbaph should prepare for war as well.
Loki dismisses the idea of the World Government waging war against someone and that all he is thinking about is avenging Harald and the soldiers that were killed.
Shanks asks who Loki is going after and Loki says the World Government.
Shanks reveals the one who possessed Harald is the King of the World.
Jarul is shocked, saying that the idea of a singular king would contradict everything they stand for.
Gaban is surprised Shanks is willing to reveal that type of classified information, while Loki is excited to take Imu’s head.
However, Shanks tells them that the King’s power is shrouded in mystery and if he is someone who could be taken down, someone would have already done so long ago.
Then Loki remembers Rocks.
Still, Loki refuses to heed Shanks’ advice, saying he does not get to boss him around and it ends with Shanks saying for Loki not to do anything stupid.
Back to the present, Loki says that he went out to sea just to find Imu but now that he is here, he sees it as the perfect chance to kill him.
Hajrudin says Loki is naive but he has no objections and is willing to take a shot, to contribute, to their revenge against their father’s enemy.
The Straw Hats overhear everything, with Nami asking why the King of the World needs Five Elders
Brook argues with Ragnir more, telling him to get away from Shuri but Chopper steps in to translate, with him saying that Shuri is dangerous.
However, Brook clarifies that Shuri is like a daughter to him, which confuses the squirrel hammer.
Robin decides to go to the Owl Library, asking Chopper to join as Saul is behind him.
Ten of the Nineteen Weapons of the Creators Revealed
Zoro and Sommers begin to fight, with Zoro using the “King of Hell Three-Sword Dragon: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation”, the attack he used against King and Sommers brings out Gram, the weapon Imu used in Chapter 1183.
We learn about the weapons of the 19 kings who created the world 800 years ago, who pledged equality and planted their swords before the Empty Throne.

“Vohu*” (Sword of Nothingness)
“Nemesis” (Sword of Divine Punishment)
“Longinus” (written in katakana in this panel)
“Stigma” (Sword of the Vengeful Demon)

With Omen, Imu restored these weapons to their original power and granted them to his two Holy Knights.
Sommers witnesses how those centuries-old legends that were passed down were not lies and excitedly wields Gram as he declares that this is the power that subdued the world.
At the same time, we see Sanji vs Killingham.
If Sommers wields the weapon of the Sommers’ family, Gram, the Sword of Wrath, then Killingham wields the weapon of the Rimoshifu Family, Longinus, the Spear of Holy Life.
The reference to “Longinus” comes from the traditional name given to the unknown Roman soldier who pierced Jesus Christ’s side during the Crucifixion.
The weapon he wielded later became known as the Holy Lance, the Spear of Longinus, or the Spear of Destiny.
So, to summarize, here are the weapons of the 19 monarchs from 800 years ago, who would later be known as the Creators:

Killingham has summoned one of them: Longinus, the weapon of the Rimoshifu Family.
Two weapons were mentioned by Sommers but have not yet been shown: Tohu and Muramasa
Gaban vs Imu BEGINS!
Before the Xingtian axe strikes Luffy, Scopper Gaban appears and blocks Imu’s attack with his own two axes, smiling at him
