In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, we learn about how the Enchanted Blades were made while Kunishige and Shiba are thrown in the slammer for a while.

Kagurabachi Chapter 116 is titled, “Princess”

This chapter has 19 pages.

Editor’s note: “Someone.. Awakens?”

The chapter begins with a woman waking up.

This is Chiaki Soga, the Princess of the Soga Clan that Shiba serves.

The older sister of the future Sword Saint and greatest criminal, Akemura Soga.

And the future wife of Kunishige Rokuhira and mother to their son Chihiro.

It is explained that Chiaki was responsible for accurately predicting earthquakes, even detailing date, time, and location.

Chiaki was also responsible for identifying the Datenseki Stone’s whereabouts.

The Soga Clan is one of the oldest, if not the oldest known Great Sorcerer Family in Kagurabachi, existing more than a thousand year and being responsible for warning Japan of any calamity or abnormality.

As such, the Soga Clan holds as much influence over the country as the imperial government itself.

Shiba, being a guardian of the clan, remarks that the Sorcery Bureau he works for act as middlemen.

Shiba, Mashiro and Hasumi attend a prophecy ritual that has also gathered multiple clan heads from other elite Sorcery families.

We learn the exact arrangement between the government and sorcerers.

Before the Kamunabi’s existence, the government’s Sorcery Bureau oversees this unspoken agreement in which the government will tolerate certain activities as long as they remain behind closed doors and not compromise the state’s image.

We see the other Sorcery families, such as the Sazanami and Azami clans in the chart.

The prophecy ritual is a physical representation and enforced reminder by the government of the bond between the laws of ordinary humans and the laws of sorcerers.

Essentially, the Soga clan is at the heart of the country.

Now within the Soga Clan estate, Hasumi remarks that the emergency prophecy ritual is taking place could be due to a dream related to the Shokoku, so he reminds Shiba and Mashiro not to offend the Soga since the Sorcery Bureau only exists because of their kindness.

Hasumi further states only one Sorcerer in the Soga Clan possesses the power of prophecy, the eldest daughter, Chiaki.

Every eldest daughter of the Soga Clan is viewed as an “avatar of Izanami” due to her powers and ties to the land, the symbol of peace and order.

Chiaki speaks of her dream:

“Eight days from now, in Yurakuhama, men of Shokoku will land their shores but they bear no ill will”

“A ship will arrive, carrying the royal family.”

After the meeting, Chiaki’s mother praises her.

The attendants doing their work praise Chiaki’s beauty but one of them points out that she is from an illegitimate lineage.

It is explained that the previous Princess’ eldest daughter lost her life all of a sudden and so they could not find an offspring.

Two years ago, the power of Prophecy awakened in Chiaki’s body, which was not meant to occur.

So now we can confirm that this Prophecy is an inherited form of Sorcery since Sorcery is tied to Sorcery Nerves on the body.

However, one of the attendants pity Chiaki for not being able to hang out with friends like regular folk.

One of them remembers how she used to hang around and play like one of the boys and we see a flashback of Chiaki and her brother Akemura playing with Kunishige and Shiba.

We then see a 16-year old Akemura training in the courtyard, training to get strong enough to join the Elite Guard, who protect the Princess.

The trainer tells Akemura that age is the only important qualification and so Akemura is too young in spite of having more than enough strength and skill.

The trainer remarks how unusual Akemura’s bloodlust is.

Akemura spots his older sister Chiaki, who tells him not to push himself too much.

Akemura relents but then slyly tells his trainer to spar with him one more time.

In their chambers, the mother tells Chiaki that no one can doubt her and Akemura.

However, Chiaki is not all too enthusiastic about her role as Princess.

Although she has accurate visions, Chiaki’s Prophecy can only capture fragmented visions that need to be made sense of, which is hard for her to do.

The mother of Chiaki then tells her daughter to speak up since every detail counts.

Surprisingly, Chiaki only talks about Kunishige coming to Tokyo.

The mother remembers how she, Shiba and Kunishige were once inseparable as children.

However, when asked if Kunishige has any relation to the country’s future, Chiaki only responds with “maybe”, leading to the girl getting scolded by her mother for not learning after last year’s incident.

The mother reveals that Chiaki and Kunishige were caught exchanging letters and her feelings for Kunishige distracted her from her duties.

It also seems that the mother despises Shiba, who is revealed to be from Kansai, as she has kept insisting that the Sorcery Bureau fire him.

In the prison cell, Shiba talks to Kunishige about Chiaki, asking him if he still sends her letters.

Shiba uses Chiaki as a pretext to bring Kunishige to Tokyo for a surprise reunion, in spite of her mother’s protests.

Not wanting to mess up Chiaki’s future, Kunishige says he has no chance with the Princess and has a better chance of marrying a katana.

Kunishige now complains about the food.

Just in time, Mr. Sushi Chef is outside the cell door, bringing sushi on the house for Kunishige, fulfilling a 3-chapter food craving.

Meanwhile, we see the emergence of the mysterious Shokoku people, covered in flames while emerging from the water.

The Irishima Conference.
