Could the MAPPA x Netflix Collab Make the Final Jujutsu Kaisen Movie Happen?

MAPPA, the studio behind hits like Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen, has formed a strategic partnership with Netflix that could mean more original projects or even a final Jujutsu Kaisen film

Netflix x MAPPA

On January 21, 2026, it has been announced that Netflix and MAPPA have signed a partnership agreement for MAPPA to produce a selection of anime exclusively for Netflix.

As such, several projects are already in development wherein MAPPA and Netflix will collaborate in terms of production, story development, and merchandising.

This would mean Netflix-branded stories will be animated by MAPPA as Netflix-exclusive releases.

Of note, Netflix has already exclusively distributed several MAPPA productions, including Kakegurui Twin, the 2024 reboot of Ranma ½, and the 2025 adaptation of The Rose of Versailles.

For fans worried over the state of employees, in a 2025 interview, MAPPA vice president Hiroya Hasegawa has remarked that the company and the anime industry as a whole have begun rethinking work styles and work-life balance with production growing and efforts to collaborate with overseas productions have been made.

On this partnership, MAPPA CEO Manabu Otsuka comments:

“This strengthened partnership reflects our long-held vision of MAPPA as a self-reliant studio on both creative and business fronts. Japanese animation studios should lead with global perspective—from planning and development to international reach and related business ventures. We’re committed to working closely with Netflix to build a long-term, win-win collaboration.”

From Kaata Sakamoto, Vice President of Content at Netflix:

“MAPPA has continuously taken on bold creative challenges, and we want to support that spirit. By combining MAPPA’s distinctive production and Netflix’s global reach, we hope to expand anime’s possibilities. We’re excited to deliver new stories, fresh expressions, and impactful experiences to audiences worldwide.”

Some fans also speculate that this could potentially help with making the final arc, the Shinjuku Showdown into a set of movies, albeit some worry that this could mean said content will be exclusive to Netflix rather than a bombastic theatrical release.
