Kalyans are Cursed Spirits? War is Coming! Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 11 Spoilers!

With Rumelian third eyes sensing a Kalyan’s death, does this mean the exorcism of Cursed Spirits will inevitably trigger war? Will the current arc lead us into an unavoidable war between Rumelians and Jujutsu Sorcerers?

JUJUTSU KAISEN © 2018-2026 by Gege Akutami/SHUEISHA Inc.

In the previous Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter, Jujutsu Headquarters seeks out Yuji Itadori as their human deterrent against the Simurians while Usami’s team, together with Cross and Maru, plan a takoyaki party to bridge between the two races.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 11 is titled, “Cultural Exchange”

This chapter has 19 pages.

Editor’s note: “From space (Simuria) comes”

The chapter begins on a rooftop with Usami and Mino talking about how they have now opened Pandora’s Box with the cultural exchange.

Usami remarks that the Simurian spaceship is powered by Cursed Energy.

Mino remarks that research into cursed energy as a new form of energy is ongoing, but research has stalled due to the current inefficiency of its conversion into other forms of energy except for the use of Japanese Sorcery.

Usami also worries that if word gets out that the spaceship called Naunax made of Mul ore is powered by cursed energy, human trafficking by taking Japanese people with cursed energy would be on the rise again.

As such, Usami suggests that the dinner party be an opportunity to draft a non-disclosure agreement to ensure that the aliens’ secrets are not shared to the human public.

Suddenly, Mino gets a call for Yuka, who says that the Okkotsu siblings are taste-testing together with Cross and Maru, so they ask Mino to get them the best octopus possible.

Usami says that he will take care of it as he has connections.

Tsurugi and Maru go to a fish vendor, who talks about a one-legged octopus, a Monopod Octopus, which is a deformed variant of the giant Pacific octopus that adapted to the local environment.

The man asks about how an octopus would lose seven of its legs to atrophy and reveals that when that happens, all its flavor will concentrate into one leg instead of being split into eight.

This talk of legs reminds me of how Sukuna was able to split his power into twenty Fingers and also how he was able to concentrate all his Cursed Energy into Yuji’s pinky to  transfer himself to Megumi.

Anyway, Tsurugi and Maru heads to a beach to retrieve the octopus.

On the water, Tsurugi asks Maru if he is a bad swimmer, to which Maru said that during his time making Dura’s canal, he was swept away in a flood but survived, which Tsurugi considers as good enough.

Underwater, Tsurugi sees a strange reef zone and swarms of jellyfish, a tough zone for amateurs.

Back in school, Yuka takes some medicine and Cross asks Yuka if she should tell her brother about her condition but Yuka says that she wants her end to be normal, not special.

Perhaps she will be killed in the coming war sadly.

Back on the beach, Tsurugi emerges with an octopus and looks puffy and bruised from dealing with the jellyfish.

He asks Maru to borrow a rash guard or something for himself.

However, Maru is competitive and wants to get a bigger octopus.

In the end, both got the same-sized octopus and the same rashes.

Did Japan Eliminate Sexism in the Future?

Tsurugi asks what does “warrior” mean for Rumelians.

Maru says that “warrior” is basically a Jujutsu Sorcerer on Earth and only men can be sorcerers because women cannot manipulate cursed energy or what the Simurians called Rolloluca.

Apparently, the women can still take on the role of making the equivalent of Curtains, meaning they can do Barrier techniques.

However, Maru does mention that the Deskunte have female warriors, which could simply mean that the Rumelians willingly practice patriarchy to justify why the women have not tried to awaken their powers.

Maru explains that cursed energy was a gift from the Kalyan, a messenger of the gods that gave men who could not bear children the power to protect women and children.

Yes, there is patriarchy even among aliens.

It seems that Rumelian patriarchy is justified by this logic.

Tsurugi remarks that this mentality, the patriarchy, sounds like something from the Reiwa Era.

The Reiwa Era began on May 1, 2019, when Emperor Akihito abdicated the throne in favor of his son and crown prince, Naruhito.

Jujutsu Kaisen began in 2018, which is near the end of Akihito’s Heisei Era (1989-2019).

Wait, did Japan actually eliminate patriarchy after thousands of years?

This sounds like Paradis from Attack on Titan and the way Isayama writes the world “as if there is no sexism”.

However, if you dig deeper, you will see that lingering aspects of sexism remain even in a more egalitarian society.

Jujutsu Kaisen as a whole has fleshed out patriarchy, with Naoya being the final form of the conservative Zenin Clan’s unhealthy sexism, which resulted in the complete desecration of the dignity of Maki and Mai Zenin, twin girls born with low Cursed Energy (and the implied assault Naoya made on Mai when they were younger).

However, the irony is that Naoya admires Toji Zenin, the biggest pariah of the Clan, a man who lacked any Cursed Energy through a physical Heavenly Restriction.

That would make people like Toji considered by Jujutsu racists like Gojo’s ex, I mean ex-best friend, Suguru Geto as “monkeys”, a term Toji himself uses to refer to himself and that Geto would also borrow and become racist because of the encounter with the man.

Although formally Jujutsu society allows female sorcerers equal opportunities, Gege Akutami shows that this does not equal a removal of barriers or ceilings.

The fight between Momo Nishiyama, a hafu (half-Japanese) female sorcerer, and Nobara, a regular Sorcerer with a more provincial background rather than traditional Sorcerer ties, showcases that disparity.

Momo is a typical cutesy girl but if you look at her background of being half-Japanese, you can see that she herself is an unknowing victim of Japanese discrimination.

Meanwhile Nobara was empowered by her own femininity, as in her own words, she feels good when she is all dolled up but also when she kicks ass.

Interestingly, Momo’s father, an American, is also a sorcerer, so like Miguel Oduol of Kenya, he is also a foreign-born sorcerer, a rarity among humans.

This further solidifies Momo’s own personal experiences of discrimination, both as a female sorcerer who is often looked down by the physically-focused men, and as a hafu in Japanese society.

Maru apologizes for making Tsurugi uncomfortable with the conversation, implying there was a sense of cultural shock since future Japan is surprised by the sexism of an alien race, a sexism that has existed in humanity since the beginning.

Maru clarifies that those who protect Rumel are still valued regardless of gender and class.

Jabaloma is one case.

It is not clear if he means that Jabaloma is actually female or only due to his age.

Considering Jabaloma is an elder, it is likely that it is more that Jabaloma is no longer a practicing warrior due to his age.

Maru remarks that the women will likely join the cultural exchange but normally, they are confined to the ship for their safety along with the children.

In understanding this inequality, Maru feels bad for making them uncomfortable.

Tsurugi notes that he does understand how men and how Maru feel, recalling his own complicated relationship with his sister, Yuka, who he always wanted to protect.

Tsurugi clarifies, however, that it is not that he is assuming someone is weak.

But if that person gets hurt, he would not be able to stand it.

This is why Tsurugi wants to be stronger, so that he can defend people and make sure they are not weak.

Tsurugi even wonders which of them is weaker by comparison, showing his own humility as a person.

An admirable trait for an older brother and for a man.

The egalitarianism of Satoru Gojo lives on in his distant relatives.

Cursed Technique Range: The Curse of Dabura’s Sister

Back in Jujutsu High, the Simurian women try out human meals and are amazed by the taste.

We meet Tomoe Kyoko, Jujutsu Tech Nutrition Teacher, who is worried about the scale of the cultural exchange as she thought she only came here to make takoyaki.

Tsurugi assures her that the Simurians will take care of the octopus legs but Tomoe wonders why the octopus only has one leg.

Maru explains that they will use a monopod octopus, whose name is based on the batting style of an old baseball player.

Where is old Utahime? She would love any mention of baseball.

Meanwhile, Usami meets with Jabaloma and Dabura as they discuss the Curse that Dabura’s younger sister is being afflicted with.

Jabaloma explains that it is a death curse cast by the Deskunte clan leader.

It activates either when the clan leader dies, or if Dabura disobeys the leader’s orders.

However, by departing into space, they seem to be away from the effective range of the Cursed Technique but the Rumelians are exploring ways to deal with the curse.

Mino realizes that this meeting will be to their advantage because

Dabura’s sister having an incurable curse and being a motivation for Dabura’s rebellion is similar to Megumi Fushiguro’s character arc, since his older stepsister Tsumiki was also afflicted by a mysterious curse.

Usami brings up the Black Rope, the Cursed Tool created by Miguel Oduol’s clan in Africa that is capable of erasing Cursed Techniques

However, it is not an easy tool to acquire, as Miguel once remarked that the Black Rope he brought and wasted on Gojo during the Night of Hundred Demons in 2017 was the only one made by the clan and it took decades to do so.

69 years have passed since Suguru Geto’s death.

Perhaps Miguel and his descendants have started making a new rope.

On a side note, it is a coincidence that we have a black character who sells octopus and this chapter is the first (indirect) mention of Miguel in the current era.

Dabura looks hopeful at this, showing how much he has longed for his sister’s freedom.

With the meeting done, Dabura tells Jabaloma that he will step out for a bit while Mino sees so many positive advancements already.

Maybe he wants to calm down and let his emotions out with this update.

Oh No, He’s Hot

Meanwhile, Yuka runs off with the takoyaki but Tomoe tells her to stop, saying that using mochi instead of octopus is a bad idea for takoyaki.

Suddenly, Tomoe and Yuka encounter Dabura.

Everyone, including Jabaloma, is nervous

Tomoe gets flustered over Dabura’s looks and asks Yuka if she is okay since she has no makeup on.

Anyway, the takoyaki proceeds and it seems the Simurians are enjoying the meal, even if that is Yuka’s botched takoyaki.

The Start of War: Can Humans Coexist with Cursed Spirits?

Back on the ship, Cross tells Oski to join them for the cultural exchange but Oski says to go on without him.

Suddenly, the other elder, Boro appears, and he has tears on his third eye.

Boro exclaims that the humans are dangerous because he has seen Japanese people kill a Kalyan

Wait a minute, are Cursed Spirits Kalyan?

Humans produce cursed energy that creates Cursed Spirits, who desire human flesh and misery.

Sorcerers are humans born with the ability to convert their own Cursed Energy into Jujutsu techniques, rather than create Cursed Spirits.

Simurians are an alien race who can manipulate Cursed Energy because of their connection to the Kalyan.

Warriors are Sorcerers, men and potentially women with the ability to manipulate Cursed Energy.

Of the Simurian tribes, the Deskunte have the greatest raw power but the Rumelians are the only tribe that cry when a Kalyan dies.

The Rumelian elder witnessed the Japanese killing a Kalyan and there could only be one species that is similarly tied to the Simurians: Cursed Spirits.

Then, this is definitely an impetus for war.

This is not new territory for Jujutsu Kaisen

In the original story, the first group of villains were the Disaster Curses and their goal was to replace humans with themselves as the newer, better humans.

Although they hold a near-instinctual malice towards humans, we have also seen how they form bonds with each other or have fun.

In spite of his malice and lack of care towards them, Kenjaku genuinely enjoyed playing games with them, from monopoly and beach ball to saunas or playground trips.

In spite of his apathy, Mahito played with children in the playground even though they were unable to see him.

Most of all, Dagon and Jogo mourned for the loss of their comrades, with Dagon maturing out of anguish into his adult form and Jogo even imagining the late Hanami and Dagon (still in child form to show that this is not all real), with Hanami saying that they will be reborn as different beings one day.

With Cursed Spirits, a threat to human peace and practically pests to them, being a trigger for war with the Rumelians, does this open the door towards discussions of coexistence with not only the aliens but also Cursed Spirits?

Or is this proposition for peace doomed from the start, as the Rumelians will be forced to endure much pain as a compromise in the name of peace with humans.

But if they do coexist with Cursed Spirits, Jujutsu Sorcerers will lose their place in society.

Perhaps it is time to bring up the old question Yuki Tsukumo brought up: the solution to the Cursed Energy Problem.

If you recall, one of the core problems of Jujutsu Kaisen involved how to deal with Cursed Energy itself.

Humans produce Cursed Energy subconsciously with negative emotions and lack the brains to control Cursed Energy, resulting in the creation of Cursed Spirits and Curses.

In Chapter 77: “Premature Death, Part 2”, Yuki posed two solutions: either (1) eradicate cursed energy entirely, therefore ending both Cursed Spirits and Sorcerers, or (2) teach ordinary humans how to use Cursed Energy.

Geto’s input from this conversation, however, was that since both solutions are impossible at present, the only realistic way to solve the Cursed Energy problem that has made both humans and sorcerers miserable is to kill every non-Sorcerer.

We might revisit this question again.

Peace for Rumelians through Cursed Spirit coexistence or peace for humans by committing to all-our war?

Can the presence of the Rumelians help humans learn how to use Cursed Energy and maybe convert the Cursed Spirits into tameable Shikigami?

Or will the endgame for Modulo, where everything returns to the starting position, involve the end of Cursed Energy entirely.

Perhaps the ultimate Curse to end in Jujutsu Kaisen is the concept of Cursed Energy that exists in both humans and Rumelians.

After all, the Kalyan was used as a pretext for the war between the Deskunte and the Rumelians.

Now the inverse is happening between the Rumelians who are bonded to the Kalyans or Cursed Spirits and the humans who are terrorized by them.

Editor’s note: “The ill omen resides in a realm beyond humanity..”

Author’s Note: “Octopuses are so cute, aren’t they? The project on Shiru Shiru Mishiru where they kept an octopus as a pet brings back memories.”

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 12 will be released on November 24, 2025.
