My Hero Academia Live-Action Has Horikoshi’s DIRECT Involvement
With Horikoshi’s involvement confirmed, will this My Hero Academia live-action be as faithful and beloved as the One Piece live-action?
There is still buzz about an upcoming live-action adaptation for My Hero Academia.
On September 9, 2025, it was announced that Jason Fuchs would serve as screenwriter.
Fuchs is known for his work on the story of Ice Age: Continental Drift (2008), Wonder Woman (2017), IT: Chapter 2 (2019) and A Minecraft Movie (2025).
He is also one of the showrunners for the television show, It: Welcome to Derry (2025-present), that is a prequel to the recent IT films.
On October 21, 2025, we also had more information on the production of the live-action, namely that My Hero Academia mangaka, Kohei Horikoshi is heavily involved in the live-action film.
According to Fuchs, Horikoshi is said to be involved even in the early pre-production stages, reviewing plot, outlines, and scenes while giving detailed feedback.
Horikoshi made specific requests to be implemented in the production, such as All Might having an “absolute” presence, the importance of All Might’s bond with protagonist Izuku Midoriya, such that the film should show how Deku continually admires and aspires to be like All Might.
This news evokes feelings similar to the confirmation of Eiichiro Oda’s direct involvement in the production of the live-action One Piece, which is certainly felt in the rules set for the show, such as the lack of romance among the Straw Hats.
With Horikoshi’s involvement confirmed, will this My Hero Academia live-action be as faithful and beloved as the One Piece live-action?
The live-action version of “My Hero Academia” will be directed by Shinsuke Sato, who has worked on the “GANTZ” and “Kingdom” series, as well as “Alice in Borderland.”
This film will be distributed in Japan by Toho, the same production company as the My Hero Academia anime through its Animation division.
