Latest Dandadan Episode Causes Legal Controversy

In Dandadan Episode 18: “We Became a Family”, the anime played a rock number by the HAYASii, a hayashi rock band titled “Hunting Soul”.

While produced by the anime’s composer, Kensuke Ushio, the song itself was written, composed, and arranged by Seiichi Nagai, with vocals by Kishō Taniyama, guitar by Marty Friedman, drums by Chargeeeeee…, and bass by Wakazaemon.

Within the story, Seiko Ayase called for this band to exorcise Evil Eye out of Jiji and that is because, although they are not mediums and therefore cannot see the spirits, their performances are so passionate that they resonate with spirits.

The Hayashii’s was the name the anime gave to an unnamed band in the manga that Seiko called the Brave Force and this name was only revealed during the release of the visual dictionary, Dandadan Daizukan, which was a few days before the release of Episode 18.

So what led to the legal trouble here?

Well, the band members resemble the real-life rock band, X-Japan and one of its members, Yoshiki remarked this sounded like his band’s work.

Although Yoshiki was at first amused by this, Yoshiki’s lawyers have noted that there could be a possible copyright infringement involved.

As such, the musician said that “It would have been nice if this production team had at least given me a heads-up.”

With the song being produced under Sony Music Publishing, both parties will have to meet to discuss the matter.

However, Yoshiki remains hopeful towards a positive resolution for both parties as he says that he is an anime fan, having composed multiple anime theme songs, such as Opening 5: “Red Swan” for Season 3 of Attack on Titan.
