Golden Kamuy Announces OVA 5 and First Light Novel

On June 13, 2025, after 2 years since the conclusion of Season 4 of the anime in June 26, 2023, Golden Kamuy announces the release of its fifth and latest OVA.

Produced by Brain’s Base (To Your Eternity Season 1), taking over for Geno (Golden Kamuy Seasons 1-3), this OVA will adapt the missing content from the Lightning and O-Gin Arc, which covers Chapter 102: “The Lightning Bandit and O-Gin the Viper” to Chapter 107: “Sleep”, with Chapters 105 to 107 not having been adapted at all.

The anime previously adapted this arc partially into Season 2 via:

• Episode 18: “Ani Roots” (Chapters 75-76, Chapter 102, pages 2-5)
• Episode 19: “Kamuy Hopunire” (Chapter 101, 103, 108, 113, and 114)
• OVA 2: “I Fell in Love, and That’s Why I Decided to Escape. A Life and Death Battle Vs. The Horrifying Deadly Venom! Deep in the Forests of Hokkaido, A Massive Serpent Lurks!” (Chapters 83 to 85 and Chapter 104, pages 8-15.)

All of these episodes were released from 2018 to 2019, meaning this arc has not been adapted in 6 years!

Keiichirou Sakamoto or Lightning and his wife, O-Gin are a pair of cutthroat thieves that Tsurumi’s 7th Division encounter to retrieve Sakamoto’s tattooed skin.

Alongside the Lightning and O-Gin Arc, a mini-episode titled “Shimaenaga” will be included to bring the total runtime to 30 minutes.

This mini-episode is based on Chapter 228: Shimaenaga, or “Long-Tailed Tit” (a species of bird).

The most recent OVA, “Shiton Animal Chronicles”, based on the Shiton Anehata Arc (Chapters 108 to 114), was released on September 18, 2020.

The OVA comes with the special edition of the first light novel in the series, penned by mystery writer Amon Ibuki.

The novel centers around Lieutenant Tsurumi and his men’s mysterious experiences during the Russo-Japanese War.

The Blu-Ray to be released on October 17, 2025. Pre-orders close on August 18, 2025.

The Final Season had been previously announced at the end of Season 4, with no update on the date of release.
