Live-Action Solo Leveling is in the Works

On January 22, 2025, it was announced that a live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling has begun production in Kakao Entertainment.

The news has been received with a lot of surprise from the fanbase, especially given the seedy reputation of live-action adaptations.

Now on July 10, 2025, Netflix has officially announced that they are not only still producing the live-action adaptation but that they now have the face of their protagonist, Sung Jin-woo

Byeon Woo-seok will play the role of Sung Jin-woo and has been praised for his performance in dramas such as “The Lovely Runner” but this will be his first part of a manwha adaptation of any sort.

Some fans have remarked that the live-action Korean adaptation will be the “next Squid Games” in terms of domestic and international popularity, especially with such a remarkable actor as its lead and Solo Leveling’s global reputation.

About Solo Leveling

Solo Leveling was originally South Korean portal fantasy web novel written by Chugong, serialized in Kakao’s digital comic and fiction platform KakaoPage beginning on July 25, 2016, and was later published by D&C Media under their Papyrus label since November 4, 2016.

It would later become a webtoon  first serialized in KakaoPage on March 4, 2018, illustrated by the late Jang Sung-rak (Dubu), vided into two seasons, with the first season ending on March 19, 2020, followed by its second season, released from August 2020 to December 2021.

Eventually, Solo Leveling would be adapted into an anime television series by A-1 Pictures (Seven Deadly Sins, Kaguya-sama) that began airing on January 7, 2024 and ended on March 31, 2024.

Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Seven Deadly Sins) composes the series original soundtrack.
