The Origin of the Enchanted Blades! Kagurabachi Chapter 115 Spoilers!
We see the beginnings of how the Enchanted Blades were made as two genius swordsmiths meet for the first time. Is Subaru Urita also responsible for making the Enchanted Blades alongside Kunishige Rokuhira?
In the previous Kagurabachi chapter, we finally meet Chihiro’s father in his youth and the sixth Enchanted Blade bearer, Subaru Urita.
Kagurabachi Chapter 115 is titled, “Swordsmith”
This chapter has 19 pages.
In the Datenseki Research Facility, Room 6, we meet with Jouji, a fellow agent of Hasumi with an eye mask.
Hasumi brings up his grievances about Shiba doing something reckless, which upsets Jouji.
All done in the middle of Subaru’s lecture, where he introduces himself and his apprentice.
Jouji is surprised that the swordsmith is also a sushi chef, a man split two ways but Hasumi mentions that he is also a swordsman, a master of the Sakotsu One Sword Style.
However, Subaru overheard them, correcting them by saying it is actually all one way.
Subaru says that trying to master many things results in doing them half-heartedly and he does not do so.
Instead, he believes that sushi connects to everything in the form of the grasp of the thing.
In Japanese, the kanji used is “nigiri”, the holding and forming of the rice for sushi.
Therefore, “gripping” in sushi applies in swordsmanship and swordsmithing.
A scientist talks about their findings about the Datenski being able to generate s a massive amount of Spirit Energy but the problem is that using it leads to death.
While channeling Spirit Energy powers up the rock, that empowered Spirit Energy returns to the user and kills them from the inside, leading to an explosion.
So the scientist suggests finding something akin to a “storage battery” that stores surplus electricity so that by providing a temporary escape route for the excess Spirit Energy, the ston can be used with stability.
The scientist brings up Subaru’s reputation, specifically of his katana having an incredibly smooth “flow of energy”.
He brings up Subaru’s book, “Japanese Katana and the Flow of Spiritual Energy” and how its thesis is that the material used is the key and that he brought up several examples of “materials that easily conduct spirit energy”.
So the scientist suggests creating a conductor but the research they did suggests that none of the materials have any scientific evidence of having any sort of affinity with spirit energy.
The scientist concludes that Subaru, as a blacksmith, has reached an understanding outside scientific territory.
However, Subaru reveals he made up everything he wrote in the book and that there are no specific materials that easily conduct spirit energy.
The reason for this scam is simple: Subaru refuses to reveal his trade secrets to unskilled swordsmiths.
The scientist asks how Subaru was even able to pull it off in the first place.
Subaru reveals that it was possible because he made it himself.
Subaru demonstrates by throwing two pencils at Jouji, who was provoked to unsheathe his blade.
Seeing the latter as a good swordsman, Subaru uses Jouji as a test subject and looks at his sword, the Supreme Grade from Kazafune.
So Subaru asks Jouji to hold his creation, a newly-made katana made of Tamahagane and metal flakes, so nothing special was really used.
Seeing the quality of the katana, the scientist notes that the difference is in skill but he cannot see this applied in a blade’s trait to absorb Spirit Energy
Suddenly, the man’s hand is cut off, causing him to panic.
However, he looks again and sees that it was all an illusion.
Hasumi observes that the atmosphere changed just by unsheathing the blade.
Jouji asks what makes Subaru’s blades different.
Subaru explains that when lightning falls where the air is thin, where the humidity is high, it searches for places where electricity flows better and so it falls chaotically.
Spirit energy follows the same principle, so things like the amount of carbon causing super-tiny disturbances, or how the construction changes with how it is heated up.
These create small pathways within the katana that make it easier for Spirit Energy to flow through.
Subaru calls these “veins”, which Subaru allows to form within his design to ensure the Spirit Energy flows perfectly for the purpose of cutting, hence why his katana have a pureness to their killing ability.
Jouji is impressed by this pinnacle of swordsmithing.
Subaru remarks that swordsmiths who are aware of “veins” are quite rare and even among them, none of their katana are as good as his.
Subaru believes that with veins added to the design, the Datenseki can be fashioned into what he terms “Enchanted Blades”.
It seems Subaru is the father of the concept of the Enchanted Blades that he would also wield.
Will he actually help Kunishige make them or is this all Kunishige’s work?
Suddenly, Subaru points his blade alongside Jouji at the teleporting Shiba, Kunishige and Mashiro, the last one bumping to a table due to his position from Shiba’s Teleportation.
Hasumi panics while Shiba says he only wanted to introduce them to Kunishige, who immediately goes to Subaru to shake his hand, which Subaru’s apprentice finds rude.
Subaru remarks how Kunishige is flaming from within, meaning Subaru could see his spirit.
Subaru asks how many blades has Kunishige done so far, to which Kunishige said he did 200, which shocked the apprentice as Kunishige is rather young here in his 20s since the rules of the swordsmith association stipulate a smith can only make two blades a month.
The apprentice says that if he has not made a name for himself from his blades, then his katana are not decent.
Kunishige refuses to talk any further, which leads Shiba to remind him that he will offer him food later.
Kunishige goes to the blackboard, scrawling with his terrible penmanship and here he explains that the Datenseki has extreme sensitivity to all things spiritual energy but to add onto that, it amplifies that power when exposed to heat, so the margin is around 1,000 degrees or the melting point of iron ore.
He did test it by putting the small fragment on a lighter flame in the last chapter.
The scientist wonders if he is from the Sorcery Bureau, given his knowledge here.
Kunishige offers to process the volatile Datenseki, much to the surprise of the scientist.
Hasumi is alarmed that Shiba would include his friend in government work.
To appease Jouji and the facility, Hasumi apologizes and assures them that he will punish Kunishige and Shiba.
Later, Kunishige and Shiba end up in the same tight cell together for their intrusion.
However, Hasumi remarks that Shiba did not know any of the details of the research, so Kunishige would have no way to know within 12 hours since his last phone call with Shiba about the Datenseki.
Hasumi wonders if, given what Shiba said about Kunishige’s eyes, that he was able to figure everything out.
Subaru barges in, asking why someone like Kunishige is without status and unsheathes Mashiro’s sword.
Mashiro says that Kunishige is picky with who he sells his swords to
As he inspects the blade, Subaru remarks that Kunishige is young and cocky.
The chapter ends with Kunishige insisting on his food, even though both he and Shiba are detained.
Editor’s note: “The Human Treasure sets his eyes on Kunishige’s katana—–…..!!”
“Next chapter, what will Kunishige and Shiba, trapped behind bars, do to get out?! And more than that, what does this sushi-geezer have in store…?! Find out!”
Kagurabachi will be on BREAK next week.
Kagurabachi Chapter 116 will be released on March 30, 2026.
