The chapter opens with a cutaway to Side-B: 1st Stage Cleared Gathering Room, where the survivors of the grueling “Birdcage” trial assemble.

Nagi Seishiro emerges having survived the first stage, observing that despite the trial’s brutality, roughly half of the original 300 candidates are still in the running.

The next trial introduces the concept behind the chapter’s title: the “Taboo Game.”

For Nagi, the taboo condition placed upon him is severe—his trademark weapon, “Trapping,” is strictly forbidden.

Rather than being disheartened, Nagi shows a spark of awakening, smirking and remarking that it “sounds interesting.”

However, this is only for two pages.

A New Formation from Ego

Back at the Blue Lock Stadium, we head to the England locker room.

Coach Fox hypes up his squad to trust in the robotic system to crush Blue Lock completely in the second half, especially as they have a 3-1 lead.

He reminds them that as long as they adhere strictly to his calculated probability blueprint.

Inside Blue Lock’s locker room, Jinpachi Ego unveils his tactical countermeasure.

Formation Shift: Japan switches their formation to a 4-1-3-2.

Substitutions:

OUT: Kenyu Yukimiya and Zantetsu Tsurugi

IN: Hyoma Chigiri and Ranze Kurona

The Strategic Reason: Ego explains that discarding the dual-winger “Cerberus” setup means they can no longer play the same wide game.

Therefore, Chigiri is brought in over Yukimiya because Chigiri has the speed to control open space by himself.

While Zantetsu complains that he wanted more time on the pitch to clash with England’s “idiots,” Yukimiya takes the substitution gracefully, content with his role.

Meanwhile, Kurona is the new linchpin to dictate the direction of the second half.

England immediately looks to advance the ball, with Teddy Knight receiving possession.

Kurona hounds Teddy Knight in a tight formation, with Teddy acknowledging Kurona’s sharp turning radius and low center of gravity, but remains confident, leaning on Fox’s programmed probability options as he mutters England’s sequence.

So Teddy begins his attack against Kurona, looking to exploit what he perceives as a predictable defensive reaction.

Teddy attempts a stepover fake, intentionally holding his stride for a fraction of a second to bait Kurona into anticipating an inside cut-in.

Believing Kurona has taken the bait, Teddy suddenly rejects the cut-in and executes an explosive vertical burst down the sideline.

But this was part of Blue Lock’s new plan as out of nowhere, Jin Kiyora slides across the turf directly into Teddy’s path, cutting off the touchline completely.

Kurona and Kiyora execute a two-man coordinated trap, clamping down on Teddy Knight from both angles and completely stifling his movement.
Isagi smiles as the plan succeeds, identifying the maneuver as Blue Lock’s secret weapon for the second half:
