Kagurabachi Chapter 88 is titled, “The Start”
This chapter has 19 pages.
The chapter begins with Izaru checking on the Barrier team when they detected the Hishaku.
The barrier team identifies five people in the west-side of Level 5.
The plan to lure the Hishaku to the Execution Grounds failed.
Izaru orders a message to be relayed to all groups to intercept the Hishaku.
The Barrier man worries about the leaker but Izaru states that they have no time to worry about that.
So the Barrier man sends Izaru’s order: while all enlisted personnel and below must do nothing, high-ranking officers are to attack from the west and prevent the Hishaku from reaching the center.
They are allowed to damage the buildings and do whatever it takes to eliminate all the Hishaku.
We then cut back to Yura, who is surprised to see Uruha, who should be dead, be alive, which makes him upset with Samura.
Uruha asks Hakuri if he can fight but Hakuri says that Isou is now on an interval so he cannot use his offensive Sorcery but he can transport using Warehouse, even if everything that has registered so far has been reset.
Uruha decides to take the offensive.
Suddenly, the pair are shocked to see one of the Kamunabi traitors dying.
Yura is not fazed.
They then see the ceiling get open up, revealing a tall, young swordswoman named Kiri standing over the rubble that crushed the traitor.
Kiri is shocked to learn that Uruha is alive and Hakuri is surprised to see the two of them talking to each other informally.
Uruha introduces Kiri as the granddaughter of Itsuo Shirakai, the founder and master of the Iai White Purity Style school, which Uruha and Samura learn from.
Uruha remarks that he almost died four and a half times against his master, especially when the man threatened anyone who made his granddaughter cry.
This was when Samura and Uruha trained under this master close to 20 years ago and Kiri was still a child.
As such, the two took care of her, giving her a drink or Uruha carrying her shopping bags.
Uruha reveals that Shirakai is missing and we see Shirakai talk about how tired he is of slashing people.
When Shirakai brings up a bear, we learn that he entered deep into the mountains and has not been contacted.
However, Kiri clarifies that her grandfather is fine as she still receives emails from him on the phone, asking how she is doing and she replies by saying she is fine.
However, that was the last message she intends to give as she actually hates her grandfather for being sexist.
This is because Itsuo believes that the blade is a duty for a woman and a woman’s slender arms only lead to death, hence why Kiri is a swordswoman who aims to one day chop his head off or replace him as the school head.
As Uruha introduces Hakuri to Kiri, the emo Hishaku sneak up on Uruha from behind.
Reacting within a split second, Uruha was able to kick him away but the Hishaku blocks with his arm.
Hakuri is surprised by Uruha’s physical strength.
Now we see Uruha’s Sorcery in action “Kouen” (Crimson Stage)
The bald Hishaku next to Jeanist prepares his own Sorcery, Makou (Demonic Gnaw), to block it.
As the name suggests, the Makou summons an actual demon’s head with an open mouth.
Uruha entrusts Hakuro to Kiri.
Yura asks for a book and brings out a sword from that book, leading to a clash between him and Uruha.
Yura notes that Uruha was able to react with amazing speed but has lost his destructive power, wondering if his sorcery, Kouen, strengthens the body.
Uruha realizes that Chihiro must have stopped Samura and then talks to Yura, saying that the man must have run out of cards to use against the Blade Bearers
Yura politely asks Uruha to not get in the way as they lack time.
Jeanist turns around and warns Yura about some approaching footsteps.
When Uruha brings up how the Hishaku are trapped like in a beehive, Yura concurs with Uruha, saying there are “interesting people” within Kamunabi Headquarters.
Yura then says that the Kamunabi have played right into the Hishaku’s hands as they are now distracted by this momentary chaos.
We see that Yura’s eyes resemble the Sword Saint, which happened in the last chapter.
However, even Uruha sees the similarities, implying a connection between the two even though Yura might not have used the Shinuchi.
Unless he has from unsealing the box and letting Kyora Sazanami borrow it.
Yura then says they still have a card in play called “life or death”, which could imply some sort of empowerment of their sorcery.
The bald Hishaku touches his fingers on some ritual marks on the floor, indicating the use of his Makou technique, which now has multiple demon heads moving around and facing off against Kiri and Hakuri.
