PANDA AND YUJI??? EVERYONE SURVIVES! Dabura Becomes KING OF SIMURIA! Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 24 Spoilers!
While Maru saves his twin and friends, he has forced Rumelians, who worshipped Kalyans, to be the new Jujutsu Sorcerers, and exorcise their old gods for survival. What is Panda’s role in the true ending of Jujutsu Kaisen?
In the previous Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter, Maru and Yuji begin the Ritual of Harmony to remove the majority of Cursed Energy from the Japanese while also saving the lives of Cross, Yuka and Tsurugi, preventing them from becoming victims of the war between humans and Rumelians.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 24 is titled, “Light or…”
This chapter has 21 pages, including the color page.
The color page features Maru floating over the world alongside the orbs of light representing the souls of humanity and Cursed Energy.
Editor’s note: “Prayer for all the souls of the dead”
“The ritual of Harmony from Maru and the others will change the world!!”
Yuka and Tsurugi Are Saved
As the ritual takes place, the Kalyan inside the mothership Naunax emerges in a feminine humanoid form, resembling a Simurian.
Their third eye weeps, foreshadowing a concerning development later on.
Miyaguni remarks that what Maru did was less of an exorcism and was more like salvation.
Salvation for the dead who have turned to Curses.
Salvation for the living who are haunted by Curses.
Salvation for the Sorcerers who have sacrified their all to fight Curses.
At the same time, Yuji also walks by and is impressed by what Maru has done.
Is this another subtle hint that Yuji is connected to Miyaguni in some way?
Her look after Yuji knocked out the Sorcerers with Blood Manipulation could be the typical outrage every time Satoru Gojo does something but it might be a hint that the two are connected.
Yuji did attack everyone except her.
And some of these Sorcerers were probably around Grade 2 or Semi-Grade 1 at best since Miyaguni is a Grade 1 Sorcerer.
Mahoraga finally disappears, his wheel dropping.
The wheel looks bloodied and lost its upper and lower spokes, likely the result of Dabura’s actions or perhaps because Dabura was taken away mid-battle and thus broke the ritual of subjugation.
Thus Mahoraga no longer needs to be subjugated.
In the last chapter, Maru’s Harmony was able to heal Usami of the wounds he suffered from trying to stop Dabura, Cross of the gunshot wound, Yuka of her brain tumor and Tsurugi of his wounds from the battle with Maru.
Tsurugi also wakes up and is helped up by Maru.
Tsurugi’s watch beeps as Yuka checks up on him, with the two siblings looking forward to going home, alive and together.
Dabura Becomes King
In Simuria, Dabura steps into the palace of the Deskunte chieftain, who was with two concubines.
The cowardly king threatens the life of Spejo, Dabura’s younger sister but then she shows up, confirming that the Black Rope undid the curse.
We also see her full face and that unlike other Deskunte, she has cut off her horns.
Welp, there goes another 68 years of Black Rope down the drain to save the life of one alien girl.
Dabura uses Light to kill the Chieftain, which breaks the top of the citadel.
The crowd identifies this as belonging to “Captain Dabura”, confirming his rank in their forces.
Dabura jumps down and throws the head of their former leader.
And he declares that he will be the Deskunte Chieftain.
Now Dabura is the ruler of Simuria.
His first act: to build a grave for his best friend Dura and enshrine him as a heroic spirit.
Essentially, he has elevated Dura to the status of a god among Simurians.
Will Dabura usher in a new era of peace.
Well, except Dabura steps down because he knows nothing about politics, so he will leave it to the people to decide.
Ironic that the person who knows his limits the most would have been a better chieftain for the Desktunte tribe.
But he made quite a Gojo-like move, refusing to take direct control because of his own lack of political savvy and choosing instead to let the next generation lead.
Might will not make right but the will of the people.
Will this mean that the Deskunte will be less imperialistic or warlike?
Maru Creates a New Problem and Turned His People into Jujutsu Sorcerers
The Rumelians gather as a council.
Cross explains how Maru changed the color of the souls in Cursed Spirits, which share the same color as the Kalyan and thus caused Rumelians to confuse Cursed Spirits for Kalyan.
Here comes a problem though:
According to Maru, because of this change in soul color, the Kalyan will no longer be able to identify the Rumelians as part of their own.
As a result, the Kalyan will likely begin attacking and devouring the Rumelians onboard.
Since Kalyan reproduction has not been confirmed in the past 100 years, Cross wants to hear everyone’s opinion regarding the treatment of the 52 Kariyans currently aboard the ship.
The assembly is made, with Elder Boro calling Maru and Cross criminals or even heretics for doing this to their sacred beasts.
Jabaloma defends them, saying that while the current reality is hell for them, they should find solutions to adapt to this.
Oski tells both elders to keep quiet as he wants to know more about the Kalyan as of now.
Maru explained his hesitation on taking the Kalyan’s lives alongside the Cursed Spirits since they share the same colors but have different natures.
Kalyans are physical beings while Cursed Spirits are just negative energy with a form.
Maru was also considering treating the Kalyan like livestock to tame and consume but he could not bring himself to treat sapient life that way.
Now the question is whether or not they should treat the Kalyan as wild beasts.
This chapter reminds us that Harmony is not quite “Plot Convenience” but an alteration of the status quo in a way beyond anyone’s control.
Remember that Yuji and Maru spent a lot of time thinking about the way to go about this process.
Yet even this slipped through the cracks.
Maru has distinguished the color of souls among the Kalyans, Rumelians and Cursed Spirits to prevent Rumelians from suffering the burden of the death of most Cursed Spirits via the Ritual of Harmony while sparing the lives of the Kalyans who did not know any better.
But now they have taken away the divine protection and reason the Kalyan are worshipped, by making the Kalyans their natural predator, just like how Cursed Spirits are.
Essentially, Maru just recreated the cycle experienced by the Japanese for over 1,000 years.
On Earth, humans naturally produce Cursed Energy that condenses into Cursed Spirits.
To prevent all of humanity from becoming prey to Cursed Spirits, Tengen created a barrier that resulted in Japan being the only place where majority of Cursed Spirits would be born and, in turn, create Jujutsu Sorcerers with the brains to not produce Cursed Spirits and instead apply Cursed Energy into Cursed Techniques.
In the present day, to prevent Cursed Spirits from rampaging on Earth while Rumelians allow this to happen or to prevent the loss of Cursed Spirits from harming Rumelians, Maru has separated the color of souls and eradicated only a large amount of Cursed Spirits and the Cursed Energy to create them.
By erasing these “colors”, future generations of humans will no longer be burdened by the Cursed Energy problem but the next generation of Rumelians will suffer the same fate as humanity has for centuries.
Someone will always bear the burden.
And now the fate of 52 animals will be determined.
Notice how the dynamic between the two cultures and the types of Spirits is similar to Bleach’s concept of the Balance of Souls.
Giving favor to one side tips the scales and creates pandemonium.
There is an ungodly sacrifice, an “original sin” that builds the world.
Yuji was right to call this act a sin yet he wants to erase the current status quo.
It feels like this status quo is just as terrifying, at least for the Rumelians, who have faced much persecution since antiquity because of the Kalyans attacking the Deskunte and discriminating the protected Rumelians.
Now Rumelians, who just found a home on Earth, will have to deal with their own protectors potentially devouring them because Maru chose to solve the problems of Earth’s Cursed Energy.
Panda??
The chapter ends with Yuji meeting Panda in a warehouse.
Given the epilogue and how Yuka and Tsurugi found Panda in the Gojo Clan residence, it is likely that Yuji visited this place.
Like how he visited Yuta’s son and the Okkotsu siblings’ father Iori.
What is Panda’s role in the potential final chapter of the entire Jujutsu Kaisen manga?
Keep in mind that Panda is a Cursed Corpse made by the late Principal Masamichi Yaga, combining three compatible souls in one body to produce a sentient, self-sufficient Cursed Corpse.
Essentially an artificial Sorcerer.
Will Yuji, with his knowledge of souls, replicate Yaga’s Cursed technique as a failsafe against the emergence of Cursed Spirits in a world without Sorcerers?
Or is Panda the key to solving the current problem faced by the Rumelians?
Could Panda save the world of Jujutsu Kaisen and usher in a whole new era?
Editor’s note: “☆The one inside in the forbidden storage was… Panda!”
“Next issue: the third in a three-issue color run!
A super climax with an extra-large central-color!”
