SOUL GOD YUJI ITADORI VS MAHITO, THE FINAL BATTLE!! Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 22 Spoilers!
The long-awaited final showdown of the ages: Yuji vs Mahito, written and ending exactly as we and Gege expected! Now, we await Modulo’s conclusion within 3 chapters!
In the previous Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter, Dabura unleashes his Domain Expansion, Reverse Transcendence, against Mahoraga while Yuji and Maru enter the passageway of souls to use Mahito as a way to change the souls of all humans in Japan to end the creation of Cursed Spirits.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 22 is titled, “Passageway of Souls”
This chapter has 19 pages.
The chapter begins with Yuji Itadori just aura-farming like usual.
Yuji’s Solution to the Cursed Energy Problem is to use Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration, which interferes with the soul, combined with the Simuarian mothership Naunax and Yuta Okkotsu’s massive Cursed Energy stored in Rika’s Ring.
The two objects were seemingly linked by Maru’s Harmony technique and they are the main objects of Modulo.
The ship, with Maru’s Harmony, brought the Rumelians to Earth while Yuta’s Ring is the object that divided the Okkotsu grandchildren, Yuka and Tsurugi.
Yuji points out that since Mahito will not cooperate, the only options are to defeat or subjugate him.
Maru asks if he should do the deed but Yuji decides he will do it himself.
Yuji worries about accidentally killing Mahito but Maru assures him that as this is the Passageway of Souls, no one dies here but the soul can be subjugated.
Kneeling down at the shocked Mahito, Yuji asks if he is in, all the while his face is shadowed by his hood.
Angered at being looked down by his rival, Mahito turns the Passageway into Shibuya.
Stating that Yuji will die since he has a body, Mahito traps Yuji in a giant ball of flesh with Idle Transfiguration, intending to also “remove the illusion of his youth”.
Mahito rejoices as the entire Passageway has the same material as the soul, now fully confirming what the soul is at long last.
As such, everything in this realm is a target of Idle Transfiguration.
Mahito’s Self-Embodiment of Perfection is the second Domain Expansion shown in Modulo.
But Mahito’s words will come to bite him because Yuji’s Domain is a Domain of the soul itself.
But Yuji does not even bother.
This immediately gets cancelled as the small body from his tongue to form the hand signs is cut off and now we get the thing on the ground by itself, alongside Mahito’s own fingers.
We then see arguably one of the Modulo’s best-looking double-page spreads yet:
Yuji uses his Soul Dismantle to turn everything, including Mahito and the Idle Transfiguration construct that is sealing Yuji, into cubes.
Waffle Kaisen is back.
Quite the fitting fate for someone who has a patchwork face.
Yuji just dogwalks in front of Mahito, asking him if he has always been this weak.
Maru then grabs the slice of Mahito’s head holding his eyes, which turns into energy balls.
Maru worries about the souls of his comrades who died.
Was he also thinking about Dura?
Yuji assures Maru that souls in the Passageway do not interfere with each other to that extent
Furthermore, Mahito lacks the Cursed Energy to do any meaningful harm and Maru points out that Mahito only regained this much power thanks to the influence of Maru’s Harmony technique.
Yuji is amazed that Maru understands everything about this realm but Maru explains this is just the consequence of the Harmony technique.
Just as Maru and the Simurians are able to speak Japanese because of Harmony, Maru understands the Soul Passageway because of Harmony.
Maru puts everything he needs in a small cart:
- Yuki Tsukumo’s research notes on the soul and the Cursed Energy Problem.
- Mul ore from Naunax
- Yuta Okkotsu’s Cursed Ring
- Mahito in doll form
From waffle to doll, the Mahito humiliation never ceases.
Gege really wanted to give Mahito, his most evil, twisted villain, all the aura loss he deserves.
Yuji summarizes the Cursed Energy Problem asked by Yuki Tsukumo since Chapter 77 of the original series.
Cursed spirits are formed when cursed energy that leaks from humans accumulates like sediment and takes shape.
This phenomenon is observed almost takes place only in Japan.
To create a world where cursed spirits are no longer born, there are only two options:
- Eliminate cursed energy from Japanese people or;
- Turn Japanese people into sorcerers.
Maru asks regarding Option 2 and confirms its logic: that a sorcerer’s Cursed Energy circulates properly within their own body,and because it is actively expended through the use of techniques and the like, the amount that leaks out is drastically reduced.
However, Yuji remarks that Option 2 will not help them.
The harm caused by Cursed Spirits will be caused by the harm brought by Curse Users, who will abuse their Jujutsu.
Something Yuji spent his post-Gojo on like helping a former Culling Game player make the most of his potential at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Furthermore, this will result in more people with the Physically-Gifted Heavenly Restriction like Toji Zenin.
Maru asks if Option 1, removing Cursed Energy from both humans and Simurians, is the way to go.
Yuji points out that this will create friction between the two races.
Cursed Spirits are not produced by Simurians but humans make them from their Cursed Energy leaking out, meaning there will be friction.
One side is deprived of what is natural to them.
Furthermore, Yuji asks for Maru’s name and Maru apologizes for the trouble their group have caused on Earth, so Yuji asks what they should do now.
Maru wants a world where everyone became better because they met the Simurians.
Yuji does sympathize with Maru’s ideals but points out that what they are about to do will be a big sin since they will be stripping humanity of its potential.
For example, now that aliens have arrived, research into cursed energy, which had long been stagnating as a potential new energy source, should have advanced rapidly.
Yuji notes that it is possible that hundreds of years from now, resources will be exhausted and cursed energy will be the only thing left to rely on.
That kind of possibility will be erased.
Above all, they would be meddling with people’s bodies without their consent.
In spite of all this, Yuji allays Maru’s worries and chooses to do this massive deed nonetheless.
Regardless of future outcomes, Yuji believes that humanity must be saved from the scourge of Cursed Spirits, even if it costs the possibility of a lasting source of energy.
A source of energy that has proven, time and time again, especially in the Modulo era, to dehumanize the Japanese people.
Yuji intends to do this, knowing that this option, to strip away the last possible resource Earth will have after this point, will ultimately doom the far future in exchange for a pleasant present one for Maru’s generation.
Furthermore, Yuji notes that it seems like he will be able to live for another 300 years or so.
Therefore, he will live long enough to bear the consequences for their actions.
Yuji wonders if the removal of Cursed Energy will affect his aging.
He has been worried after losing so many friends and watching others die, like Hana.
Yuji clarifies the parameters of what he is about to do:
- He will not interfere with the souls of current Sorcerers and Simurians.
- Instead, he intends to strictly limit the Idle Transfiguration to non-sorcerers and to humans who will be born after this point forward.
- As for the Cursed Spirits, he is confused about whether to erase all of the present ones or not.
Wow, Maru just witnessed our boy Yuji Itadori having a hard time using his 83 year old noggin.
Please Yuji do not mess this up.
Either way, are we getting Jujutsu Kaisen Part 3 from this?
