DABURA ACTIVATES DOMAIN EXPANSION!!! Yuji and Mahito REWRITE JUJUTSU KAISEN! Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 21 Spoilers!!!

Befitting Jujutsu Kaisen, Dabura Karaba, the main antagonist, is the first person to unleash a Domain Expansion in the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel and also the first of the aliens to create a Domain on the fly. Now he is truly at the pinnacle of power!

JUJUTSU KAISEN © 2018-2026 by Gege Akutami/SHUEISHA Inc.

In the previous Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter, Yuji Itadori destroys , which unwittingly gives Tsurugi an opening to end the fight with Maru.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 21 is titled, “The Awaited One Arrives”

This chapter has 19 pages.

How Empathy Won the War

The chapter begins with a flashback of Tsurugi’s childhood while sparring with his grandmother Maki (whose face is obscured by branches to tie to how she is long gone).

Maki reveals to Tsurugi that they are similar in that they are the Heavenly Restriction: Physically Gifted and that they gain strength from losing someone but only because of their Heavenly Restriction.

Then she talks about the loss of her twin Mai.

See Episode 4: “Perfect Preparation” for details.

Throughout the flashback, we see bird motifs, which is tied to the name of the arc being a reference to a goose holding a reed on its mouth to stand on water and that by losing the reed (Mai), the bird (Maki) gains strength and freedom, as well as a nest with two eggs, tucked together like the twins themselves.

Even after 68 years, Maki still mourns the loss of her other half.

It seems Maki has made many regrets, including her investment in a future place for Mai, which included leaving Mai to their abusive Zenin Clan.

She believed that even if she was not there that day she lost her, someone else could have taken care of it.

Ultimately, she viewed her dream of giving Mai a future was a sweet illusion yet not a day goes by where she wonders if things went differently.

She weeps over these thoughts, which moves Tsurugi to tell her not to cry.

The same words Tsurugi also tells Maru as Tsurugi’s incredible empathy was constantly able to see the pain in Maru’s face.

Although it is also tied to how much pain Maru suffered from the backlash of the deaths of many Cursed Spirits thanks to Yuji’s Dismantle.

Maru wonders why Tsurugi did not finish him off when he had chance as Tsurugi embraces his Simurian friend and rival.

Likely thinking about Maki’s regrets about a different future with Mai, Tsurugi says that he wanted to do things differently.

Rather than let this be a duel of warriors and brothers, Tsurugi wanted something different and that he did not want a future where he would win.

A future where Tsurugi would be strong means Yuka will die.

So he wants Maru to live so that together, they can save Yuka.

Maru is puzzled, since this fight is not about who is right or wrong but this is for Yuka’s sake.

Yet the terms “right and wrong” in Jujutsu Kaisen align to Mahito’s words as he punches Yuji during the Shibuya Incident, that it is ultimately a war between which side would survive.

This is the main conflict of Modulo: a world where one species must die for the other to live: Sorcerers who must kill Curses or Rumelians who will die from losing Kalyans.

Tsurugi collapses, stating that he still does not know since he is only 17.

Maru is puzzled by the whole dilemma, that while Japan too has real warriors who fight curses, the Rumelians only demand a place for themselves.

Even before Modulo, Jujutsu Kaisen has always had one main problem: a place for those whose cursed energy types does not belong to their environment.

Riko Amanai and other Star Plasma Vessels cannot live normal lives because they must be sacrificed to be Tengen’s Vessels, to stabilize the barrier keeping Japan safe.

Suguru Geto saw how exhausting it is to be a Sorcerer who protects the ignorant masses who continue to produce the Curses that cause his class tragedy.

With Maki being Physically Gifted and Mai having weak Cursed Energy and lived in a clan where Jujutsu was the only determiner of dignity.

Toji’s existence was a living hell, tormented by being unable to belong anywhere and being tied down by a fate he ironically was free of.

Rumelians will die from losing Kalyans or even the similar Cursed Spirits due to their biological bond with them yet Sorcerers must kill Curses to ensure humanity’s survival.

And of course, all of that boils down to the Cursed Energy Question.

Yuki Tsukumo brought it up in the Hidden Inventory Arc.

To kill all normal humans to erase Cursed Spirits or to optimize Cursed Energy through a yet-unknown method.

Maru cries over the tragedy, not wanting to lose his friends Tsurugi and Yuka or his own people, so he is begging for help.

As he is crying, the ghost of the real Rika appears and begins to fade, confirming that the being who helped Tsurugi was the real Rika, in full being with the Shikigami in Yuta’s Ring.

Suddenly, the Naunax mothership glows, revealing that within it rests the Kalyan, the oldest being in the Rumelian village, that has been staying with the Simurian refugees all this time.

It seems Rika is the bridge between two races.

Rika was a victim of the Cursed Energy problem, her accidental death leading to Yuta, a boy gifted with the Gojo Clan’s overwhelming Cursed Energy, to curse her spirit to this world.

And in spite of Yuta living and dying alongside his wife Maki, Rika stands here, to wipe the tears of his beloved’s grandson and that grandson’s friend.

THE FIRST SIMURIAN DOMAIN EXPANSION

Amidst floating building debris, Dabura realizes that there is a process he has to go through.

The black void he is forming is still in front of him.

Dabura asks Mahoraga if this technique exists on Earth but since his conversation buddy is the silent type, Dabura remarks that this is the first time that he wanted to exchange words with someone properly.

Mahoraga seems to be adapting to Dabura’s Cursed Energy itself.

Mahoraga is definitely posing like he did when facing off within Sukuna’s Domain Expansion as he seemingly adapts to the new reality Dabura is creating.

Dabura makes a hand sign and the result is:

A DOMAIN EXPANSION

This is the first Simurian and the first alien Domain Expansion.

Created from the black void ball of positive energy, Dabura realizes he could shape this into a different technique and in following a process, he created a Domain.

Dabura’s Domain Expansion is “Otherworld Between Darkness and Light: Reverse Transcendence”

There are some questions now:

Is this a sure-hit Domain?

Being an alien Domain Expansion, there is a lot we do not know about and even Dabura himself is figuring out the process.

MAHITO IS THE SOLUTION TO CURSED ENERGY????

We skip to Maru and Yuji entering a strange dimension.

Yuji is surprised to meet this gigantic creature with a massive middle third eye, the Kalyan.

Maru is surprised how Yuji even knew about the Kalyan and he explains that he got his information from Todo, who Yuji calls the “funny guy with an instrument for a hand”.

Ah that vibraslap has its own reputation.

So in the extra story at the start of the previous chapter, Mino tried to find Yuji through Todo but Nobara tells him that only Yuji would know where Todo is because everyone but Yuji hates him.

However, what if Todo was actually continuing the legacy of his late mentor Yuki Tsukumo?

Maybe he is working together with Larue and Miguel in Yuki’s organization to do research on how to erase Cursed Energy.

Maru explains that the Kalyan is the longest lived of the Rumelian Tribe and the being that they offer their prayers to.

Yuji realizes that a Kalyan is quite similar to a Cursed Spirit as he pats its snout.

Maru talks about the Cursed Energy in Yuta’s Ring, Tsurugi’s Split-Soul Katana and the Naunax’s Mul Ore, along with Maru and Cross’ Harmony Technique to find a way to unite Rumelians and humans together but notes that he alone cannot bring about the solution.

For Maru, Yuji Itadori, the actual representative of Earth, will make the judgment call.

Maru’s endgoal is to create a world without Cursed Spirits.

Yuji brings out Yuki Tsukumo’s notes, which Choso, Yuji’s older brother, was able to keep before his death.

Yuji remembers Choso fondly and that it is also Choso’s wish, the wish of a child between a Cursed Spirit and a human, to see an end to Curses.

Maru explains that he was able to bring Yuji to this strange dimension containing the Kalyan because of the Harmony technique and Yuji was harmonized to only one person, a very specific being who is just like Yuji in nature.

“I am you.”

Yes, that is it.

Maru reveals this place is a passageway for souls on Earth and that this linked person is a resident here.

Yuji sees a familiar face.

Indeed, it is him.

Mahito!

Mahito has been waiting for so long (68 years) for Yuji but he is surprised that Yuji is not dead at all, with Yuji revealing that he was just called, much to Mahito’s frustration.

Now, they can begin.

Will Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration be able to permanently erase the part of humanity that spawns Curses?

And if so, how will Yuji be able to transmit that across all of humanity?

Is Tengen’s barrier still active even after all these years?

Can they use that which Kenjaku used to start the Culling Game?

We are nearing the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel and Gege Akutami has finally given an answer to the aged-old Cursed Energy problem that he wrote about more than 6 years ago.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 22 will be released on February 16, 2026.
