Merlin and Escanor Tell Their Daughter Gawain the Truth! Four Knights of the Apocalypse Chapter 215 Spoilers!
Gawain has finally received the truth but how will this change her as a person? Will she fill the void in her heart that Merlin failed to do for 3000 years? Will she gain new insight into her special powers? And will it confirm that the Grace of Sunshine lives on in the new form of Dawn?
In the previous Four Knights of the Apocalypse chapter, Meliodas and Tristan begin their training.
Four Knights of the Apocalypse Chapter 215 is titled, “Parental Affection, Awkwardly Provided”
This chapter has 20 pages.
Meliodas’ True Power Revealed
The sparring session continues as Tristan unleashes Dark Hail while Meliodas activates Full Counter with a smile to throw the attack back at his son.
Tristan looks tired even with his Demon Mark activated, so Meliodas tells the boy to rest.
Tristan asks how Meliodas is not tired and Meliodas jokingly says he is not young so he cannot move around too much.
Considering the longevity of demons, this is a funny statement.
Zeldris is currently 270 years old while Meliodas is technically 10 years older than him but unlike Zeldris, who was sealed in the Coffin of Eternal Darkness like the rest of the Demon Clan, Meliodas gained the Immortality Curse from the Supreme Deity, so he is 3,280 years old.
If 280 years of age is close to the late 30s as a demon can get, then Meliodas probably has a long way to go.
Outside of the abnormal Chandler and Cusack (both from the Demon King’s creation and former rival, the Original Demon), Galand is the eldest Demon as 1,007 years old at the time of Part 1 of Four Knights of the Apocalypse.
Tristan is dissatisfied with his current level of power, saying that he cannot bow before Lancelot, much less stand with him.
Meliodas assures Tristan he is on the right track but Tristan tells him not to pity him since Meliodas is not even using his own Demon powers.
Meliodas reveals his trick: he is using his Demon powers but he is not transforming.
While there is an advantage to transforming fully into a Demon, gaining heightened senses and superhuman abilities, it comes with the drawback of draining more Magic energy and exacts a heavy toll on one’s spirit, as shown with Meliodas’ Assault Form back when the Demon King consumed his emotions from Purgatory.
We see what appears to the shadow and silhouette of a more demonic Meliodas but it is more like what we have already seen in the previous series, an adult Meliodas with wild, longer hair and possibly those two arm structures from his Demon King form.
Meliodas reveals that he channels his Demon energy the exact moment he makes impact with his attacks, as shown when he clads his fist in Darkness and it results in a hole from that fist.
When Meliodas clads his legs every time he edges back or closes in, we see he is moving faster than the naked eye can see and blitzes behind his son, which impresses Tristan.
However, Meliodas does remind Tristan that a full transformation is better when in close quarters or outcnumbered, so Tristan should choose wisely.
Meliodas reminds Tristan not to let his Demon blood take control but that he controls it and uses that blood to its full potential
Gawain Meets Her Real Parents
Meanwhile, Gawain practices casting “Blitz Javelin” on a planted sword, attempting to shorten the spell like Worreldane has done.
However, it seems to fail, making Gawain frustrated.
Shortening the incantation is a skill for high-level magicians.
Balin tells Gawain to relax and he prepares her some tea.
Gawain explains that in a spell, every word holds power and so she demonstrates the full power of the spell, which singes the sword.
Gawain aims to abbreviate the chant while maintaining the same level of power or she will never reach Worreldane’s level of power.
Suddenly, puppet Merlin appears to cast the spell without an Incantation but this causes the whole sword to melt.
Gawain was shocked that her “grandmother” was able to do this without any Incantation and it makes her feel bad.
Balin reacts with shock to seeing two “monsters” but Gawain explains that they are her grandparents.
Right away, Merlin reveals the truth: they are not her grandparents but her actual parents.
Gawain thinks this is all a riddle since the only parent she had was Kay.
Merlin insists that this is the truth and that they had good reason to leave her to Kay, who wanted to tell Gawain the truth by this point.
Gawain is upset, not wanting to hear this from the puppets who used to be her grandparents.
Suddenly, Dubs arrives with the head of Gowther, who reveals the names of Gawain’s puppet grandparents, Merlin and Escanor, who Balin identifies as two of the legendary Seven Deadly Sins.
Gowther goes straight to the point and asks if there is a way to fight back against Chaos and how to obtain it, with Merlin confirming that there is a way.
This is quite a rich turn.
Merlin spent the entirety of Seven Deadly Sins subtly manipulating the course of events to awaken Chaos and make Arthur the King of Chaos.
But within the 18-year timeskip, she has regretted her choices and based on Gawain’s age, she regretted them almost immediately.
Gawain and Merlin share similar character arcs: as women who find a void in their hearts.
For a long time, Merlin believed being loved by Meliodas would do that but with her feelings not reciprocated in the slightest due to him loving Elizabeth first, Merlin sought Chaos to give her a sense of clarity by filling that void in her heart.
However, it became clear that her time with Arthur did not give her what she wanted and perhaps it was in having a child with Escanor that saved her.
Did she learn to love Escanor along the way?
We cannot say for sure but it is clear now that Gawain was a product of some form of love, a purpose but one that Gawain did not feel for 18 years.
Gawain, on the other hand, had her own void and it was in not knowing her true parents and her inability to understand herself.
She is confused by her sexuality, namely her preference for women, or why she was even born.
Gawain has finally received the truth but how will this change her as a person? Will she fill the void in her heart that Merlin failed to do for 3000 years? Will she gain new insight into her special powers? And will it confirm that the Grace of Sunshine lives on in the new form of Dawn?
Has Merlin actually abandoned her old cause and changed her ways after all?
And how exactly did she revive Escanor and conceive Gawain?
