The official translations of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256 got released, and the fans are enraged, but not on the author but on the official translator, John Werry.

Meanwhile, the unofficial translation of the chapter seems more accurate.

In the first page of the chapter, we see that Gojo is teaching about Black Flash.

In the official translation done by Werry, it starts with the question of why Gojo can’t use Black Flash.

Followed by Gojo explaining that it is because of his special eyes, called the Six Eyes.

This whole dialog has enraged the fans, as it completely contradicts Gojo’s statement in the later part of the chapter and his feats 25–30 chapters ago.

So let’s break it down and understand where Werry has made mistakes in his translations.

Let’s start with the first line of the chapter. Here Gojo says, “Do you really need me to explain why I can’t use Black Flash?”

However, in the next page, Gojo claims that even though Nanami has the record of consecutive four Black Flashes, he has beat Nanami in total number of Black Flashes.

This points towards the fact that he can use Black Flash, contradicting his first statement.

Furthermore, from chapter 232 to chapter 235, Gojo landed four black flashes against Sukuna, Mahoraga and Agito.

Again, going against the statement from the first page of Chapter 256, where he says he can’t use it.

Moving on to the next error that has fans enraged is when Gojo says that he can’t use black flash due to his six eyes.

A black flash is a distortion in space that occurs when a sorcerer applies cursed energy within 0.000001 seconds of a physical blow.

Basically, it needs precise control, which means that if there is someone who can pull it off, it is Gojo Satoru. This is because six eyes give the user extrasensory perception and provide ultra-precise control over the user’s cursed energy.

So, does the translation make any sense? No, right?

This is why fans are enraged, especially when the unofficial translations do not contradict anything that the manga has stated or shown before or in the chapter.

This is also not the first time John Werry has made a mistranslation for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. In April 2023, a petition began against John Werry on change.org. The petition is still going on, with 50 people having signed it today.

Fans have shared their anger on Twitter, with some claiming this mistranslation to be just pure misinformation.
