Takehiko Inoue‘s Slam Dunk 3DCG film adaptation “The First Slam Dunk Movie” recorded a box-office revenue of approximately 14.33 billion yen (about US$102.1 million) on May 28, 2023, surpassing Makoto Shinkai‘s previous blockbuster “Weathering With You“, which was released in 2019 and bagged a collection of approximately 14.23 billion yen but still a bit behind his latest blockbuster “Suzume No Tojimari”, which recorded a final box-office revenue of approximately 14.79 billion yen (US$105.3 million).

Keep in mind that the point of comparison is only Yen. If the comparison is made in USD, then Weathering With You bagged about $130,9 million in 2019 in total.

This number put The First Slam Dunk in the position of 15th highest-earning film of all time, and the 9th highest-earning anime film, both positions within the border of Japan.

Shohoku’s “speedster” and point guard, Ryota Miyagi, always plays with brains and lightning speed, running circles around his opponents while feigning composure.

Born and raised in Okinawa, Ryota had a brother who was three years older.

Following in the footsteps of his older brother, who was a famous local player from a young age, Ryota also became addicted to basketball.

In his second year of high school, Ryota plays with the Shohoku High School basketball team along with Sakuragi, Rukawa, Akagi, and Mitsui as they take the stage at the Inter-High School National Championship.

Now, they are on the brink of challenging the reigning champions, Sannoh Kogyo High School.
