Released for Kodansha’s weekly Morning KCÂ magazine on December 7, 2007, Space Brothers has been going on for 19 years, with 45 volumes and 427 chapters so far, released biweekly.
Final Volume 46 will be out on July 23, 2026.
Space Brothers has also been adapted into a 99-episode anime by A-1 Pictures (Solo Leveling, Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Fate/ Strange Fake) aired on Yomiuri TV from April 1, 2012, to March 22, 2014.
The manga has been incredibly popular for its niche, selling over 34 million copies by November 2025.
In 2011, Space Brothers won the general category at both the 56th Shogakukan Manga Award and the 35th Kodansha Manga Award.
Space Brothers is the story of two brothers, Mutta Nanba and his younger brother Hirito, who both wanted to be astronauts, with Mutta coming in much later than his younger brother to JAXA.
