Shaman King Reaches 41 Million Sales
After 5 years, Shaman King’s sales have been updated, putting it just below Spy x Family as the 76th best-selling manga of all time.
On September 26, 2026, it was announced that Shaman King has sold 41 million copies after 28 years.
This includes the original manga, guidebooks, and the various spinoffs: the two-volume Zero prequel (2011-2012), the sequel Flowers (2012-2014), the second sequel “The Super Stars” (2018-2024).
This makes the franchise the 76th best-selling manga of all time, just below Spy x Family, which recently reached 42 million on March 31st, and above Be-Bop High School (1983-2003), the 32nd best-selling Shueisha manga of all time if we are counting its original release format and 22nd best-selling Kodansha manga if we are counting the reprints for the original manga and subsequent spinoffs.
Previously, in March 4, 2021, the series sold 38 million copies, meaning within 5 years, there were 3 million new copies.
On March 16, 2020, the series sold 35 million copies, with the year-gap gaining 3 million likely due to the revival anime series produced by Bridge and directed by Joji Furuta, which adapted all 32 volumes of the original manga within 52 episodes from April 1, 2021 to April 21, 2022.
Meanwhile on November 10, 2011, the series sold over 26 million copies, with the original Shaman King 64-episode anime (2001-2002) being the last anime adaptation around this time.
Moreover, approximately 165 million cards from the Shaman King trading card game were sold in Japan around 2013.

Shaman King is written and illustrated by Hiroyuki Takei, first for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from June 30, 1998 to an abrupt and improvised end on August 30, 2004.
This meant that the first TV series had to create its own original ending.
The release of volume 32—intended for publication on December 3, 2004—was delayed and Shueisha reported they would only publish volume 32 if they receive evidence of demand from approximately 50,000 people, which eventually happened on January 5, 2005.
On December 26, 2017, 12 years after the final volume’s release, Kodansha announced the company acquired the “Shaman King” trademark from Shueisha in Japan and Viz Media in North America, converting the 32 tanbokon volumes into 35 volumes, first in e-book format from May 1 to October 1, 2018, then released the volumes in print from June 17, 2020 to October 15, 2021.
Takei worked on multiple spinoffs, first being Zero, which released on Shueisha’s defunct Jump X monthly magaizne from November 10, 2011, to October 10, 2014, lasted two volumes and covered the backstories of Yoh Asakura and the cast.
This was followed by the official sequel, Shaman King: Flowers from April 10, 2012 to October 10, 2014 for 6 volumes, which would serve as the sequel to the second Shaman King anime by the same studio from January 10 to April 3, 2024 with 13 episodes.
This sequel covers Yoh and Anna’s 13-year old son, Hana Asakura, and his battle against the previous Shaman King Fra YVS and his team.
This was continued in Shaman King: The Super Star, from May 17, 2018 – November 23, 2024 at 10 volumes, first serialized in Kodansha’s monthly Shōnen Magazine Edge until October 17, 2023, when the magazine ceased publication and continued on the Magazine Pocket online platform from August 17th to November 2024 for its last chapters.
