Sabo’s Voice Actor From One Piece Confesses To Assaulting And Having An Affair With A Female Fan For 4 Years!

A shocking piece of news hits the voice-acting world as another respected voice actor admits committing a crime on social media.
Toru Furuya, who had played many popular anime characters like Sabo from One Piece, Yamcha from Dragon Ball, Amuro from Mobile-Suit Gundam, Seiya from Saint Seiya, Tuxedo Mask and Rei from Detective Conan, had voluntarily confessed to not only having an affair with a female fan for 4.5 years but also assaulting, getting the woman pregnant, and forcing her to get an abortion.

On May 22, 2024, Bunshun Online posted an article reporting the news where the victim (37 years old) told them about her affair with Furuya-san.
“I knew Furuya-san’s name because I was an anime fan, but I became a fan when I heard his voice playing in Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare (2016). I found myself going to the cinema 45 times to see Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer (2018) and cried at the sight of Furuya-san’s performance.”
Her days continued as she simply sent fan letters and presents to the agency, but on New Year’s Day in 2019, she received a text message from an unknown number. The female fan said Furuya was a gentleman at first but was a different person during sex. He refused to wear a condom, claiming himself ‘infertile’. There were frequent quarrels over how their relationship should progress but Furuya strongly refused to divorce his wife.
From then on, her close relationship with Furuya began, with Furuya sometimes whispering his love to her in his mortuary voice, and on some occasions, Furuya even raised his hand to her. Their relationship changed drastically in 2021 when she discovered she was pregnant.
Furuya attacked his mistress at his villa in 2020, striking her two or three times with his palm. Amid the argument, she expressed a desire to leave, which caused Furuya to lose his temper. In a bid to prevent the incident from being reported to the authorities, he confiscated her mobile phone. Despite his panic and the presence of the police, the situation was ultimately dismissed as a typical couple quarrel.
In March 2021, the mistress discovered she was pregnant. Furuya urged her to get an abortion and doubted whether the baby was his. He went with her to the hospital, paid for the procedure, and offered some words of sympathy, saying, “That can’t be regarded as life,” in an attempt to comfort her.
Initially, Furuya refused to sign the consent form for the operation but later signed a memo indicating non-submission. He admitted that he never considered marrying her because he felt he was too old to make her happy.
After hearing from the victim, Bunshun Online decided to interview Furuya, who confessed to everything and apologized to the female fan and everyone who was hurt during and after the affair.

I, Toru Furuya, have been interviewed by the Weekly Bunshun. I would like to apologize and inform you of the great crime I have committed.I had an affair with a female fan for four and a half years until last September. I was attracted to her because of her straightforward support for me, and I foolishly contacted her myself to start the relationship.
During our relationship, we argued once and I unintentionally raised my hand. It was the worst thing I could have done as an adult and as a human being. I also made the unforgivable mistake of causing her to have an abortion. I am truly, truly sorry for the deep hurt I caused the other woman, both physically and mentally. I cannot apologize enough for betraying the trust of all my fans who have supported me over the years, disappointing them, hurting them, and tarnishing my character. I have also betrayed the trust of all those involved and have caused them a great deal of trouble.
I will sincerely make amends with all my heart and soul with the rest of my life. I am prepared to accept any and all sanctions.

Before the interview, Furuya disclosed everything to his family. His wife criticized his foolishness and recklessness but vowed to stand by him despite the social stigma. Their daughter also expressed her support for him.
