Fans of “Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-” are overjoyed with the reveal of the long-awaited trailer for the anime’s third season. This exciting news not only marks the return of the beloved series this year, but has also caused quite a stir for a peculiar reason.

In the trailer, a significant change has been noted in Emilia’s character design, specifically in the prominence of her bust. Compared to previous seasons, the scenes show Emilia with noticeably larger breasts, which has generated intense debate among fans.

While it has not been officially confirmed that the change of designer is the direct cause of this alteration in Emilia’s appearance, many fans speculate that it could be related.

Or Studio White Fox paid attention to the author’s official size ranking (Priscilla > Emilia > Rem) and decided that Emilia’s should not be the same size as Rem, as represented in Seasons 1 and 2.

Folks on Twitter welcome the change and give their own reasons, such as Emilia being pregnant…?

The discourse on Twitter and other social media has been going on for too long. So much so that some people claim that Re:Zero fans have been harassing the Chief Animation Director and Character Designer Haruka Sagawa for this trivial matter. However, the validity of this claim is still yet to be fully verified.

On the other hand, there are some fans who are quite uncomfortable with the change and questioned the reasoning by comparing Emilia from Season 1 & 2.

Additionally, Japanese fans on the Yaraon blog also expressed their viewpoints on the subject matter as follows:

  • “I mean, I’m not complaining, but if they keep this up you’re going to have boobs literally reaching the floor by the time the season airs.”
  • “All of Rem’s memories are stored in those boobs.”
  • “Emilia will be H Cup for the final season.”
  • “They change depending on what dress she’s wearing – remember the beginning and end of season two? Or the size differences in the manga?”.
  • “In the light novels it’s pretty clear that Emilia has bigger breasts than Rem.”
  • “Tappei in his eagerness to secretly buff her every season. Somehow he sneaks around the animators and edits every frame before the premiere, we don’t know how he does it.”
  • “They’re not going to talk me out of Team Rem with just a pair of boobs.”
  • “Well she’s officially busty now so they’re getting closer to canon, they’re growing as their character gets more polished over the seasons, Genius Tappei!!!!”.
