On December 12, 2025, it was confirmed that Psyren, the manga by Toshiaki Iwashiro, will be getting an anime adaptation by Studio Satelight (Fairy Tail, Macross franchise).

There was a teaser counting down towards December 14, 2025 for a special announcement.

As it turns out, that announcement is for the upcoming anime adaptation, an update that had been leaked as far back as May 14th.

However, the manga would face a particularly rushed conclusion after a 3 year run and spending weeks at the bottom of the TOC (Table of Contents) rankings, flatlining by the ending.

Some fans have attributed this to a cancellation but more likely it was due to waning popularity from how readers were losing interest in some elements, such as its mystery plots.

In spite of this, in the Top 10 results of AnimeJapan 2024 “Manga We Want to See Animated'”, Psyren was included, alongside new works like Kagurabachi.

About Psyren

Psyren is a manga written and illustrated by Iwashiro for Weekly Shonen Jump from December 3, 2007 to November 29, 2010, accumulating 16 volumes and a light novel.

While a proper sales figure is not found at the moment, Psyren was able to reach at least 1 million based on the sales of the first 10 days of each volume’s release.

The story follows Ageha Yoshina, a high school student, who finds a mysterious card and is chosen to compete in the Psyren games—a deadly contest set in the world of the same name. Competitors awaken psychic abilities, face the world’s violent monsters called Taboo and fulfill certain tasks, all the while Ageha and her comrades delve into the truth about Psyren.
