In the latest WSJ Issue, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece commented about his meeting with Jujutsu Kaisen author Gege Akutami.
The two apparently had a full conversation when they were juries for the Tezuka Prize.
This marked the two’s first proper conversation. According to Oda, Akutami is a “serious” and a “very noble person”.
The fans had some pretty hilarious reactions to this on Twitter.
The 27th Tezuka Osamu award ceremony will be held on June 8, 2023, at Asahi Shimbun Tokyo Headquarters.
The Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize, established and supported by Asahi Shimbun, is an annual manga prize given to manga artists or their creations that adhere to the Osamu Tezuka manga method.
Since 1997, the award has been given in Tokyo, Japan.
Following are the categories for Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize are:
- Grand Prize – for excellent work during the year
- Creative Award – for the creator with innovative or epoch-making expression and fresh talent
- Short story Award – for the excellent work or creator of the short story
- Special Award – for the person or group who contributed to extending the culture of manga
The nominees were chosen by this year’s judging committee from the titles recommended by people in the manga industry including specialists, editors, and bookstore employees.
The winner of the Manga Grand Prix will be awarded 2 million yen, and Originality, Short Story, and Asahi Special Prize winners will receive 1 million each.
