One Piece Season 2 Features World Government’s Biggest Secret?

Does the inclusion of the God Valley Incident in the live-action break canon or make Garp’s live-action counterpart a more interesting, conflicted character?

On May 16, 2025, fans were greeted with a sneak peek into the set of the One Piece live action and noticed that inside an opera house, there is a poster on the God Valley Incident.

If you recall, the God Valley Incident was the incident 38 years ago where Vice-Admiral Monkey D. Garp gained his epithet, “Hero of the Marines”, but everything surrounding the incident was kept under tight wraps by the World Government due to the involvement of the Celestial Dragons and their Native Hunting Competition.

In the Live-Action adaptation, it is shown that the God Valley incident, instead of being mostly covered up, has been turned into propaganda, with an opera play built around it.

The focus on this play will be Garp’s actions against the pirates who have invaded the Kingdom, rather than bringing up the Celestial Dragons’ actual activities or the Rocks Pirates by name.

This shows a level of detail for the sake of appreciation from the anime and manga fans who have already followed the source material while also giving newer audiences snippets into the wider One Piece history even when the live-action content is contained and packed in a few shorter episodes.

Will this hint at a deepening of Garp’s characterization throughout every season of the live-action, especially as he trains Koby and Helmeppo like in the cover story where he was actually introduced?

It has been announced that One Piece Live-Action Season 2 will be released in 2026, with filming for Season 3 beginning this year.
