One Piece Anime Debuts 20th Century Boys Fan Animator

Is this the start of a promising career of a budding One Piece animator?

Jack-Amin Ibrahim, the genius behind a fan-made music video of the manga 20th Century Boys, animated a 10-second cut of Kuzan and Blackbeard laughing and sharing a drink. This cut emphasized character acting that has been in much use in the latest One Piece arcs, with a focus on the distortion of space as the two characters swing around while holding their drinks up.

Ibrahim, whose recent portfolio include working on the likes of Love, Death & Robots (2019), Lastman (2016), has shared this particular new work on his Twitter / X account.

In this short, Kuzan and Blackbeard are seen laughing and swinging around heartily as they share a drink. This cut is a continuation of the emphasized character acting that has been in much use in the latest One Piece arcs, with a focus on the distortion of space as the two characters move

Previously, Jack-Amin and his brother also worked on Episode 1,100, on a 17-second cut of Gear 5 Luffy fighting an awakened Rob Lucci. The cut featured Luffy’s Looney tunes eye pops, Luffy moving his head around and even recovering his falling eyes as he dodged an angry Lucci’s attacks.

Ibrahim gained notoriety from a music video that he and his brother animated on November 12, 2023. The music used was from the 20th Century Boys’ protagonist Kenji entitled “Bob Lennon”, which was actually sung by Naoki Urasawa in the Japan Expo 2012.

20th Century Boys is a manga written by Naoki Urasawa, the author of “Monster”, serialized in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Big Comic Spirits from 1999 to 2006. It is the story of childhood friends whose game of becomes reality as one of their own becomes Friend, the dictator of a future Japan.

One Piece is a manga authored by Eichiro Oda in 1999 at Shonen Jump Magazine. The anime adaptation by Toei Productions  has reached 1,115 episodes as of August 11, 2024.
