New Berserk Anime By Studio Eclypse Dropped An Electrifying Trailer Hyping Up Fans!

This anime is made as a tribute to Berserk in the memory of Kentaro Miura, hoping he’ll look at this work with a happy face from the heavens!

Studio Eclypse, an animation production team built by fans, have uploaded their long-awaited trailer for the BERSERK: THE BLACK SWORDSMAN anime on May 18, 2024, giving us a glimpse of what can be potentially a better adaptation of Kentaro Miura’s masterpiece than the ones that came before!

This anime is made as a tribute to Berserk in the memory of the late author, hoping he’ll bestow a glance at this work with a happy face from the heavens!

Fans on social media have been giving this quite the reception, saying it may very well be THE DEFINITIVE Berserk anime they’ve been waiting all this time! The visuals, voice acting and the choreography has been on par with professional studios.

Since last year, Studio Eclypse released 4 key visuals teasing what they were about to adapt, getting fans really pumped about its stellar quality!

The studio also gave some pointers on the project:

  • No, we won’t adapt the Golden Age arc.
  • The project is focused on The Black Swordsman arc.
  • There won’t be any censoring or toned down scenes.
  • 3D CGI will not be used for any characters.
  • It will be voiced in English & Japanese + original score.

What’s more, they are collaborating with AL STUDIO on the BERSERK: THE BLACK SWORDSMAN fan anime project!

Fans can also explore Every Berserk Anime Adaptation, which highlights the often mixed to poor reception of many series that followed the original 1997 anime. This inconsistency in quality has inspired fans to take matters into their own hands.

For instance, Studio Eclypse has committed to creating a faithful 2D adaptation of the stories that previous adaptations have overlooked, starting from the very beginning. The creators emphasize that this is a fan-driven project made with the deepest respect for the late Kentaro Miura, Studio Gaga, and Hakusensha, aiming to honor the legacy of Berserk properly.

This project was first announced by Studio Eclypse in October 2023 after a poll on Twitter. It is set to come out on their YouTube channel in Summer 2025.

About Berserk

Berserk is a dark fantasy novel written by the late Kentaro Miura. He started serializing the manga at Hakusensha’s now-defunct magazine, Monthly Animal magazine.

Later in 1992, it was moved to Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine. Following Miura’s demise in May 2021, the final chapter 363 was published in September 2021.

A 25-episode TV anime adaptation of the manga aired from October 1997 to April 1998. The anime was made by OLM and covers the Golden Age arc.

This arc was also adapted into a trilogy of theatrical films. The first two films premiered in 2012, and the third premiered in 2013.

In 2016, another TV adaptation was made by Gemba and Millepensee. It aired for 12 episodes from July 2016 to September 2016. This was followed by a 12-episode second season from April 2017 to June 2017.

MAL describes Berserk Manga as:

Guts, a former mercenary now known as the “Black Swordsman,” is out for revenge. After a tumultuous childhood, he finally finds someone he respects and believes he can trust, only to have everything fall apart when this person takes away everything important to Guts for the purpose of fulfilling his own desires.

Now marked for death, Guts is condemned to a fate in which he is relentlessly pursued by demonic beings.

Setting out on a dreadful quest riddled with misfortune, Guts, armed with a massive sword and monstrous strength, will let nothing stop him, not even death itself, until he is finally able to take the head of the one who stripped him—and his loved one—of their humanity.
