MASSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT For The Apothecary Diaries Anime
The Apothecary Diaries fans are eating good as they will have a full year’s worth of content in 2026.
On October 22, 2025, it was announced that The Apothecary Diaries will continue with Season 3 and a movie.
Season 3 will be launched in 2 Cours of 12 episodes each for a total of 24 episodes like the previous seasons, which were not split-cour seasons.
Season 3 Part 1 is set for October 2026
Meanwhile, Part 2 is set for April 2027
Inbetween Season 3, there will be a movie scheduled for December 2026.
This will be a completely new story written by the light novel author Natsu Hyūga.
Season 3 will return where the manga left off at the end of Volume 4 of the light novel and ends around Volume 15, Chapter 76 of the Nekokurage manga adaptation.
About the Apothecary Diaries
The Apothecary Diaries is a light novel written by Natsu Hyūga and illustrated by Touko Shino for Shōsetsuka ni Narō, beginning October 27, 2011, with 16 volumes at present.
This would later be adapted into two separate manga versions.
First is the manga illustrated by Nekokurage for Monthly Big Gangan beginning May 25, 2017, which is still ongoing with 15 volumes.
The second is titled, “Maomao’s Notes from the Inner Palace” illustrated by Minoji Kurata for Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X from August 19, 2017, having 20 volumes.
Adapted into an anime by Toho Animation Studios and OLM (Komi-san Can’t Communicate), The Apothecary Diaries anime was released from October 22, 2023 to March 24, 2024 with Season 1 and its 24 episodes directed by Norihiro Naganuma, to return later with Season 2’s 24 episodes from January 10, 2025 to July 4, 2025 directed by Akinori Fudesaka.
The Apothecracy Diaries is set in Li, a fictional version of Ancient China, where Maomao, a young girl working as an apothecary in a red-light district is sold to the Imperial Palace to be a servant for the royal concubines but after noticing that the concubines and newborns have suffered some illness, she spends the story investigating the cause, her skills as an apothecary catching the attention of an influential eunuch, Jinshi.
