The official website of the upcoming Kinnikuman remake anime dropped its 1st trailer, key visuals and key cast members on Dec 29, 2023! The trailer revealed that the anime will begin by covering the longest arc of the series, “Perfect Origin Arc”. The arc is named after the 2011 revival manga’s arc of the same name, and it is set one and a half years from the end of the Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne Arc.
In this arc, the three superhuman armies of the past, the Righteous Superhuman, the Demon Superhuman, and the Perfect Superhuman, each with their own cause, fight a new three-way battle!
In the course of these fights, the roots of the “superhuman” species will be revealed, the human relationships within each organization will deepen, the techniques of the updated superhumans will be revamped, and the intense drama flowing through the course of the characters’ friendship will not change.

The key visuals include the characters involved in the three-way fight: Kinnikuman, Mayumi Kinniku (Kinnikuman’s father) and Prince Kamehame!

It was also revealed that the fan-favorite voice actor Mamoru Miyano will play the main character Kinnikuman and Akira Kamiya will play Mayumi Kinniku and Prince Kamehame.
“He is a good-natured, no-good superhuman who was always screwing up in everything he did, but as he met and developed friendships, his hidden talents blossomed. He is a miracle hero who has performed many great reversals and protected the earth with his “fire power” that explodes in adversity. He is currently the 58th Great King of the Kinniku planet, and his real name is Kinniku Suguru.”
“Kinnikuman’s father and the 57th King of the planet Kinniku. He mistook his beloved son for a pig when he was a child and left him behind on Earth. He is a competent king and is trusted by his people.”
“A master of joint techniques who has defended his home state of Hawaii champion 999 times in a row, making it an unassailable title in the superhuman world. He sees Kinnikuman’s hidden qualities more deeply than anyone else and becomes his master, teaching him 100 Kamehame Killing Techniques, including his own “48 Murderous Techniques.”
Both Mamoru Miyano and Akira Kamiya have commented on their roles, stating how much they’re looking forward to play iconic Shonen Jump characters.
<Mamoru Miyano’s comment>
I am pleased to announce that I will be taking on the role of “Kinnikuman”.
I never dreamed that such a situation would happen to me, so much so that I think it is a lie to even say this now.
It is a legendary work that everyone has known for as long as I can remember, maybe I watched it in reruns, but I have loved it since I was a child, and I can still sing many of the “Kinnikuman songs” as if they were imprinted on me.
I was honored just to be allowed to audition, and I felt a lot of pressure when I heard the decision, but they also gave me the opportunity to talk with Akira Kamiya beforehand. We talked a lot…a lot….
I was able to share a lot of his soul, his mindset, and his “love” for Kinnikuman. He shared, resonated with, and gave me a lot of things, and I believe he passed them on to me…! I will face my role with sincerity.
The cast and staff are already overflowing with love for “Kinnikuman” on the set!
So please look forward to it!
<Akira Kamiya’s comment>
I am really happy about the new Kinnikuman anime adaptation.
And to have my favorite actor, Mamoru Miyano, playing Kinnikuman, makes it doubly delightful.
I recall that I had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful cast members of the previous work.
And it is no exaggeration to say that it was their teamwork that made the work what it was.
I hope that the cast members of this year’s production will experience the same joy.
The staff and cast members revealed so far are as follows:
- Director: Akira Satou
- Series composer: Makoto Fukami
- Character designer: Hirotaka Marufuji
- Music composer: Yasuharu Takanashi
- Animation production: Production I.G
- Mamoru Miyano as Kinnikuman
- Akira Kamiya as Mayumi Kinniku, Prince Kamehame
The new anime commemorates the 40th anniversary of the original television anime, which premiered in April 1983. It’ll begin broadcasting in Japan sometime in 2024.
Kinnikuman, also known as Ultimate Muscle in English, was published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1979 to 1987.
In 1983, the manga also inspired an anime adaptation. Later in 2011, the series was republished in Shueisha’s web magazine, Shu Play News, and also has spin-off manga series, anime films, video games, and merchandise.
The manga has released 83 volumes in Japan, and the latest volume will be in Japanese bookstores on September 29.
