Japanese Fans List Their Top 20 Strongest One Piece Characters After Wano Arc

Prominent One Piece leaker @opspoilers2024 posted a list of 20 strongest One Piece characters chosen by Japanese fans, on Goo Rankings, a popular Japanese forum for rankings.

With 29,675 votes, this list was made after considering events that took place in the Egghead island arc. So probably sometime in October or November 2023.

Without further ado, here’s the list of the top 20 strongest One Piece characters according to Japanese fans.

1. Gol D. Roger

Makes sense for the legendary finder of the One Piece treasure to be on the top of the list. Even though we’ve never seen him fight, the fact that he was the Pirate King and everyone has such profound respect for the guy shows that he’s the strongest of the lot.

2. Edward Newgate a.k.a Whitebeard

Whitebeard to occupy the 2nd place in the list also makes sense. He is renowned as the “Strongest Man in the World” for coming the closest to retrieving the One Piece treasure following Roger’s demise.

He comes in second in the top bounty in One Piece, with a bounty of 5,046,000,000 Berries.

And of course, nobody can forget him saying, “THE ONE PIECE IS REAAAAAAALLLLL!!”

3. Shanks

A lot of other lists had Shanks at the top, but that’s assuming Shanks is stronger than Roger. And I can’t blame them, though. But considering the height of respect Roger has, Shanks is the second-most hyped man in the series. He’s also one of the 4 emperors of the New world so no wonder.

We’ve seen him make Kizaru pee his pants in One Piece film red, and coupled with his Conqueror’s Haki, he’s probably the most strongest character alive.

4. Dracule Mihawk

We were introduced to Mihawk’s ELITE STATUS when he fought against Zoro and easily defeated him. No wonder, cause’ he’s one of the founders of Cross Guild, and was formerly one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.

But considering other characters in the show, like Blackbeard, Garp and Dragon, I personally wouldn’t put him this high.

5. Monkey D. Garp

As I said, there’s no way Garp is this low. Bro literally managed to whoop freakin’ Gol D. Roger during his heyday and almost killed him many times, so I don’t know which version of Garp the Japanese had in mind while ranking these characters.

Garp, at the age of 76, was shown to be able to easily strike down Marco the Phoenix, Whitebeard’s right hand, which was something that both Kizaru and Akainu seemed unable to do.

6. Silvers Rayleigh

Seems like the Japanese are considering the current state of these characters. Back when he was younger, Rayleigh was Gol D. Roger’s first mate and had a lot of responsibilities, like leading the crew and overseeing subordinates like Buggy and Shanks, who were HIS apprentices.

Bro, if you’re teaching Shanks, then no doubt your strength would be around his level.

Being a true testament to his extraordinary strength, Garp reasoned that the Marines shouldn’t take on two legendary figures at once—Whitebeard and Rayleigh. He went so far as to admit that the Marines would need to do serious preparation if they were to make an honest attempt to capture Rayleigh without losing countless soldiers.

Not even the Four Emperors Blackbeard, who had spent two years perfecting the Gura Gura no Mi and the Yami Yami no Mi, dared to approach Amazon Lily after hearing about him.

7. Monkey D. Luffy

Of course, there’s no One Piece tier list without the future Pirate King himself. With the advent of Gear 5, Luffy is renowned as one of the 4 emperors of the sea. But it’s shocking that the Japanese didn’t even consider adding Blackbeard to the list. Even with Gear 5, Luffy ain’t beating him yet.

But this is where the list gets worse.

8. Roronoa Zoro

Look, I know Zoro is busted. But adding him in the top 10 characters of One Piece while excluding literal Yonkos and the best of the Marines is legit, like:

Seriously, how the hell is Kaido below Zoro??!! Bro was recognized as one of the four most powerful pirates in the world, famed as the world’s “Strongest Creature”. He has the 3rd highest bounty in One Piece, surpassed only by Whitebeard and Roger. He should be way above.

Five Elder St. Shepherd Ju Peter stated that Kaido was one of the few people capable of stopping Blackbeard and Law once said that he could easily kill THE Doflamingo. How the hell is Zoro matching up in his league, let alone standing above him???

10. Monkey D. Dragon

Yeah… this list doesn’t make sense. Monkey D. Dragon is seen as a legitimate threat by the freakin’ WORLD GOVERNMENT. And Zoro’s bounty of 1,111,000,000 berries ain’t even crossing Queen, Boa Hancock, and Marco. How the hell is Zoro even discussed in the same line as Dragon, let alone ranking above him??
