The Jump Festa 2024 Gintama panel has announced on Dec 17, 2023, that the earlier announced Gintama Spinoff anime “3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei” is slated to release sometime in 2025.

The spin-off anime follows the life of high school teacher Sakata Ginpachi, who becomes the homeroom teacher of Gintama High School Year Z. The school has been turned into an amusement park of terror, crowded with students with strong characters.

This project is part of Gintama’s 20th anniversary celebration.

About Gintama:

Gintama is a manga series written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi. It was serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2003 to September 2018, later in Jump Giga from December 2018 to February 2019, and finished on the Gintama app, where it ran from May to June 2019. Its chapters were collected in 77 tankōbon volumes.

Studio Sunrise converted the series into an original video animation (OVA), which premiered at the Jump Festa 2006 Anime Tour in 2005. This was followed by a complete 367-episode anime television series, which premiered in April 2006 and ended in October 2018.

Three animated films have been created. The first film premiered in April 2010. The second film premiered in July 2013. The third and last film premiered in January 2021.

Crunchyroll describes the overall plot of Gintama as follows:

In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.
