Gintama Episodes To Be Screened In Japanese Theatres In June 2024

During the Gintama SOUND ULTRA SOUL! live-action event that took place in Japan on Feb 11, 2024, the staff made a surprise announcement that made Japanese Gintama fans jump for joy!

It was officially decided that Gintama’s Courtesan of a Nation Arc, which comprises episodes 257–261 of the anime, would be compiled and screened as a movie in Japanese theaters in June 2024. The audience erupted in applause and joy at the thought of watching one of the show’s most moving episodes in theatres.

The “Courtesan of a Nation” arc is a significant storyline within the series. It follows the protagonist, Gintoki Sakata, and his friends as they become embroiled in a complex political conspiracy involving a powerful courtesan named Suzuran. The arc delves into themes of power struggles, loyalty, and the consequences of past actions. Gintoki and his allies must navigate through various challenges, including facing off against formidable adversaries and uncovering the truth behind Suzuran’s past.

About Gintama:

Gintama is a manga series written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi. It was serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2003 to September 2018, later in Jump Giga from December 2018 to February 2019, and finished on the Gintama app, where it ran from May to June 2019. Its chapters were collected in 77 tankōbon volumes.

Studio Sunrise converted the series into an original video animation (OVA), which premiered at the Jump Festa 2006 Anime Tour in 2005. This was followed by a complete 367-episode anime television series, which premiered in April 2006 and ended in October 2018.

Three animated films have been created. The first film premiered in April 2010. The second film premiered in July 2013. The third and last film premiered in January 2021.
