Demon Slayer Makes History as the Third Anime Nominee For the Golden Globe Awards

Demon Slayer could potentially maintain anime’s strong track record if it wins the 2026 Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film.

On December 8, 2025, it was announced that “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle,” will be among the nominees for “Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film” in the 83rd Golden Globe Awards.

Other nominees include KPop Demon Hunters (Netflix), Zootopia 2 (Walt Disney Studios), Elio (Pixar), Arco (Neon), and Little Amélie or The Character of Rain (Gkids).

This is the second time an anime film has been nominated for the Golden Globe, with Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s “The Boy and the Heron” receiving the award in 2023 and Makoto Shinkai’s “Suzume” being nominated alongside it.

Alongside the Academy Awards (also known as the “Oscars”), the Golden Globe Awards is among the most prestigious awards ceremonys to celebrate film and television and is distinct from the Oscars due to its awards for television shows.

It was in the 64th Golden Globe Awards in 2007 that the “Best Animated Feature Film” category was created, with Pixar’s Cars being the first recepient.

The Demon Slayer movie has also been eligible for the Oscars alongside Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (Tatsuya Yoshihara/MAPPA) and Scarlet (Mamoru Hosoda/Studio Chizu).
