Crunchyroll To Allegedly Pay USD 30 To Its USA Users Due To Privacy Class Action Suit’s Settlement
In September 2022, Beltran and others filed a class action lawsuit
It was reported that Sony Pictures Entertainment and Crunchyroll and Salvador Beltran, Jr., Eli Gross, and others reached a settlement on September 15 in a class action lawsuit. Crunchyroll users are eligible for payment of approximately US $30 (exact amount unknown).
Users in the U.S. who have downloaded or used the Crunchyroll app or website and registered are eligible to receive money.
By December 12, 2023, eligible users must submit a claim form for the same.
Crunchyroll was accused of breaking the Video Privacy Protection Act by giving Facebook and other third parties access to personally identifying information about its subscribers, according to the class action lawsuit.
Sony Pictures Entertainment and Crunchyroll denied the claim, but have decided to settle “to avoid the uncertainties and expenses associated with continuing the case.”
In September 2022, Beltran and others filed a class action lawsuit in the Northern District of Illinois’ District Court.
