Chainsaw Man Manga Sales Head Towards Pre-Anime Announcement Figures

The reason being, according to fans, is that Part 2 isn’t as engaging as Part 1, and the anime wasn’t well received by the Japanese.

Chainsaw Man Part 1 gave fans one of the most insane and jaw-dropping storytelling arcs in the history of manga but sadly, the same cannot be said for Part 2.

Sure, there are readers who are religiously reading chapters on a weekly basis, but after close observation on various social media platforms, Part 2 haven’t captured the attention of fans the same way Part 1 did.

And that is evidenced by the following infographic:

Keep in mind that the bargraph showcases sales of only the physical volumes of Chainsaw Man in Japan but the readership on Jump+ is still the same as it was at the end-part of 2023.

After the anime announcement, manga sales soared from less than 300,000 to crossing 400,000 copies! In fact, Volume 11 sales crossed Volume 9’s entire sales in just 4 days!

Even after the 1.5-year gap between the end of part 1 and the beginning of part 2, sales did not stagnate, as Volumes 12 and 13 circulated between 400,000 and 500,000+. Contrary to popular opinion, the anime did have an impact on manga sales.

However, that didn’t last very long as sales began to plummet from Volume 14 to 16, mirroring pre-anime announcement sales, dropping from 400,000+ to less than 300,000.

The reason being, according to fans, is that Part 2 isn’t as engaging as Part 1, and the anime wasn’t well received by the Japanese.

However, that can soon change when Denji and the others fight against the 4 Horsemen, as foreshadowed in Part 2.
