Blue Exorcist Enters Final Arc After 15 Years
After 15 years of serialization, Blue Exorcist will be entering its final arc. So the manga will be entering a 4-month hiatus.
On February 4, 2026, it was announced that Blue Exorcist will be entering its the final chapter of its current arc, “Of One Cloth”,and as such, the author Kazue Kato will be on break for 4 months.
The latest chapter is Chapter 166: “Of One Cloth—To the Extreme “, released on February 3, 2026 as part of the ongoing Of One Cloth Arc (Chapter 121-present).
The manga will return with Chapter 167 on July 3, 2026 to conclude the arc.
Some have noted that with Google Translate or other online translations, the news may not fully be captured as “final chapter” could mean anything and that the author has been known for her many hiatuses over the years.
However, it could also be that the final arc or saga is more likely to be on the horizon.
Furthermore, Volume 34 is scheduled to be released on May 2026, likely covering Chapters 162 to 166.
The Message
“Dear Blue Exorcist Readers!
We will be taking a long hiatus starting next month, lasting 3 to 4 months!!!
We sincerely apologize for the frequent hiatuses over the past few years.
Especially to readers who chase the monthly SQ magazine… I’m so sorry…!!!
The reason is…
Mainly to reorganize my workflow and prepare for the final chapter,
plus to work on the tankobon volumes and take a little vacation…!!
I’d be incredibly grateful for your understanding.
Thank you for your continued support.
From Kazue Kato”
Furthermore in the same post, Kato has outlined a schedule during the hiatus, including an event for April 2026, which commemorates the 15th anniversary of the manga.
About Blue Exorcist
Written and illustrated by Kazue Kato, Blue Exorcist is a manga serialized in Shueisha’s monthly magazine, Jump Square, beginning in April 4, 2009, spawning 166 chapters and 33 volumes.
By December 2022, Blue Exorcist had over 25 million copies in circulation.
The manga would be adapted into an anime by two studios, with A-1 Pictures (Seven Deadly Sins Season 1-2, Kaguya-Sama: Love is War, Solo Leveling) taking on the first two seasons from 2011 to 2017, and Studio VOLN for the last three seasons from 2024 to 2025, for a total of 73 episodes and adapting 120 of its 166 chapters.
The anime adaptation has quite a history as the manga was still ongoing in Season 1 with 7 volumes.
From the 16th episode on, the anime contained an anime-exclusive story arc that contained the direction of where author Kazue Katō wanted to bring the overall series to its end, with 17 of the 25 episodes adapting up to Chapter 17 of the original manga.
Released in 2017 after a 6-year wait, Season 2, titled “Kyoto Impure King Saga” after the manga’s third arc, would be faithful to the manga, with its 12 episodes adapting Chapters 14-34 and following up the events of Season 1 Episode 16.
In 2024, the anime would return under studio VOLN (I Want to Eat Your Pancreas and Ushio no Tora) with Season 3 to 5, adapting up to the previous arc, Blue Night (Chapters 100-120)
