Bleach’s Latest Light Novel Is Set In A High School Anime?

Taking place in an alternate universe, the latest Bleach novel puts the Thousand Year Blood War in the context of a school gang war, with some unexpected member rosters in both Gotei and Sternritter parties.

On April 1, 2026, as per Ryogo Narita tradition, we got an April Fools’ preview for the latest Bleach light novel, titled “Don’t Bleach My Fist”

He has previously done this with Can’t Fear Your Own World and Fate/Strange Fake.

This novel is also based on another April Fools’ Joke from 2023: “Bleach: The High School Warfare”

This is set in an alternate world and thus not canon, where two gangs, the Gotei and the Sternritter, fight it out and it began because the Sternritter attacked Shuhei Hisagi.

The fandom notes Hisagi being the trigger is likely due to Kubo’s apparent dislike for the character in spite being the protagonist of Narita’s previous novel, Can’t Fear Your Own World.

The first gang is mostly made up of the Soul Society characters led by Ichigo Kurosaki, with the notable inclusion of Gin Ichimaru.

The second gang is the Sternritter, featuring Bazz-B and Askin Naak Le Varr but with mostly Espada members such as Grimmjow (6th), Ulquiorra Cifer (4th), Coyote Starkk (1st), Szayelaporro Granz (8th) and Nnoitra Gilga (5th).

Toshiro Hitsugaya is also in the Soul Society gang and it is interesting to see the pair together due to their tense history.

One conversation from the novel is shown in the preview as well:

Tōshirō: “You’re the type who, once you consider someone an enemy, will chase them all the way to the ends of hell.”

Gin: “That’s you, Hitsugaya. Scary… really scary. I never want to become your enemy.”

The Arrancar turned Quincy Asguiaro Ebern owns a café that is famous for a strange reason, because it serves heavy meals like steak and ramen at very low prices.

Students see Toshiro and Gin frequent that cafe and are surprised that they are not at odds with each other.

The original author Tite Kubo provided the preview images showing the two sides of this high shcool conflict.

He has also commented on making changes to character names without Japanese equivalents, such as the Espada Nnoitra Gilga and Szayelaporro Granz and they are exclusive to the novel due to the more realistic, campy tone of the novel.

The novel will be out in Japanese on June 4, 2026.
