With the release of One Piece Episode 1156: “The Long-Sought Elbaph! The Big Reunion Banquet”, there were some changes, including to one particular voice.

Benn Beckman, Shanks’ first mate and smartest person in the East Blue, has been voiced by Aruno Tahara since Episode 151 (April 20, 2003) but Tahara is currently 77 years old and has retired after 23 years of voicing this character.

His position will be filled by a familiar voice, Shin’ichiro Miki, the voice of Pedro, the Jaguar Mink captain of Momoko Dukedom’s guardians and former captain of the Nox Pirates who sacrificed his life to save the Straw Hats and fellow Mink Carrot from Big Mom’s eldest son Charlotte Perospero by blowing himself up in Episode 849 (August 12, 2018).

This means, outside the flashbacks on Wano Act 3, this is Miki’s official return to One Piece after 8 years.

There are also worries about Beckman’s Chief, Shanks, having his own voice actor replaced as ShÅ«ichi Ikeda has retired from his iconic Gundam role, Char Aznable, last year.
