10 Years With Hayao Miyazaki Documentary Is Now Coming To North America
The documentary was released in Japan in 2019 and then in the UK in 2022.
On 23 Feb 2023, GKIDS on their official Twitter account, announced that they have acquired rights to 10 years with Hayao Miyazaki documentary for the North American region.
In April 2022, the United Kingdom release of the 4-part documentary was done by Anime Limited.
The 4-part documentary was first aired in Japan by NHK from February to May 2019. NHK World streamed the documentary on April 2019.
Kaka Arakawa (Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki) directed the documentary.
NHK described the documentary as:
An exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the genius of Japan’s foremost living film director, Hayao Miyazaki — creator of some of the world’s most iconic and enduring anime feature films.
Miyazaki allowed a single documentary filmmaker to shadow him at work, as he dreamed up characters and plot lines for what would become his 2008 blockbuster, “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.”
Miyazaki explores the limits of his physical ability and imagination to conjure up memorable protagonists.
