In the world of One Piece, Devil Fruits are one of the most sought-after due to the magical powers they offer.

This makes them very important for pirates and marines alike, and in this article, we will tell you about them!

So without wasting any time, let’s get into it!

What Are Devil Fruits?

Devil Fruits are mystical fruits that grant the consumer a special ability when eaten but also take away the consumer’s ability to swim.

There are many different devil fruits, each with its own unique power, but they can be generalized into three main types:

  • Zoan
  • Paramecia
  • Logia

Let’s discuss them in more detail!

Logia Type Devil Fruit

Logia-type devil fruit provides the power of natural forces and is the rarest type.

It allows the user to create, control, and transform their body into their natural element.

These elements include sand, mud, smoke, lighting, darkness, and many more.

By converting themselves into elements, the users of Logia become intangible. Effectively invulnerable to any physical attacks.

They also gain every ability related to them, such as sand being able to absorb moisture or light traveling at high speeds.

Crocodile

There are also some non-canon fruits that allow the user to transform into artificial things like paper and candy syrup.

Zoan Type Devil Fruit

Zoan-type devil fruits provide their users with the ability to transform into a specific animal.

They are also able to transform into a hybrid form of the combination of the gained animal species and their own.

Kaido dragon

Unlike other devil fruits, Zoan devil fruits are said to have their own will. It was proven when these fruits were integrated into inanimate objects.

Upon integration, the object came to life and received the standard Zoan transformation.

Most Zoans are allowed to transform into commonly known animals like Bison and leopards. Aside from these, some Zoan fruits provide the powers of animals that do not exist.

These are divided into three subcategories.

  • Ancient
  • Mythical
  • Artificial

Ancient Zoans: These allow users to transform into an extended species, such as dinosaurs.

Ancient Zoans are much more rare and powerful than regular Zoans. Some even provided abnormal abilities, like King being able to stretch his pteranodon’s head back.

Mythical Zoans: As the name suggests, these allow users to transform into beasts from myths and legends.

These are the rarest, even rarer than Logia-type devil fruits. They are also as strong as rare they are.

On top of the usual Zoan transformation, they also provide the user with paramecia-type abilities. For example, Kaido’s devil fruit, Uo Uo no Mi Model: Seiryu. It provided Kaido with the ability to control wind and electricity.

Kaido also gained the ability to create flame clouds, which make himself and other things fly.

Artificial Zoans: These are Zoan fruits that were obtained by non-natural means. Basically, these are man-made devil fruits.

These fruits have a ring pattern, unlike the swirly pattern seen in normal devil fruits. Vegapunk tried to create his own devil fruit but failed. However, this failed fruit of Vegapunk was later eaten by Momonosuke, who gained abilities similar to Kaido.

Ceasar Clown also created his devil fruits with a substance known as SAD. These were called Smiles. These only had 10% success.

In the case of failure, the person loses their ability to swim and expresses negative emotions. No matter how they really felt, they could only smile and laugh.

In some cases, they also got stuck in their hybrid forms.

Paramecia Type Devil Fruit

Paramecia-type devil fruit is the most common type. This type of fruit grants its users a wide variety of powers.

This includes things like shock waves, splitting their own bodies, and pretty much any superpower you can think of.

These fruits can either alter features of the user’s body or grant them a special body related to their fruit power.

Examples of these are Da Bonez’s Supa Supa no Mi, which grants a body of blades. Another one is Buggy’s Bara Bara no Mi, which allows him to split his body into pieces.

Some allow users to affect people or environments, like Sugar’s Hobi Hobi no Mi, transforming others into toys.

There are also paramecia fruits that allow users to generate and manipulate substances. Galdino, who ate Doru Doru no Mi, was able to create and manipulate wax.

The distinguishing feature of Paramecia fruits is that they provide abilities other than the power to morph into animals or convert their bodies into natural components, as do the fruits of the other two kinds.
