Nayuta MIGHT Be Death’s Pawn! Chainsaw Man Chapter 199 Spoilers!
The Death Devil is now confirmed as Nayuta’s killer and will now use her alongside her sister Fami to form her army of terror against Chainsaw Man and humanity.

In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, we were greeted with the most shocking twist: Fami is Death.
Chainsaw Man Chapter 199 is titled, “”
This chapter has 15 pages.
The chapter begins with the Falling Devil reminding the Death Devil that this is Chainsaw Man and Fami and Fakesaw Man might be checking on her panties.
Death Devil reminds her sister that even if she dies, another Death Devil will come, one without Fami’s appreciation for human culture.
The humanization of Devils is a key theme of Chainsaw Man, as Makima’s goals were seemingly for the benefit of humanity, even as in the end, she wanted to be loved, a selfish desire when compared to humanity’s fate but shared by other characters, including Denji himself.
While the Death Devil lied about being Fami and even her plan to
And this humanity is precisely why the Death Devil is conflicted over the future.
It is almost like everything Fami is doing is to prevent herself from becoming the Great Terror.
Nostradamus’ prophecy has set a deadline for Fami’s free will.
This adds another reveal: humanity’s fear controls Devils and it is the reason why Devils and humans both fear and need each other.
Devils are born from fear and grow stronger from it but too much fear will override their current selves.
It is a thematic through line for Yoru for example as in her current, weaker state, by sharing a body with a human, Yoru becomes more human and, in a way, free, in spite of how weak and difficult being human is.
The same can be said of Nayuta, the Control Devil who is raised to be a child of Denji and cannot just control anyone. Her impulse to control others for ego’s sake is tempered by a loving family, in contrast to how Makima’s impulse to control is guided by the human government.
The Death Devil loves humans and wants to have fun, even eating, but her whole character is another example of Fujimoto’s commentary or even acceptance of nihilism.
The Death Devil lacks any means to properly live, including mortality.
She tried taking out her organs yet cannot die and she tries eating but there is no taste or any point to consuming it.
Yet the Death Devil likes to eat, the same way humans enjoy dessert or watch movies and play video games even if they do not provide sustenance.
It all depends on the actor or agent in question to decide the meaning of an act.
Death is the ultimate fear and if people keep fearing death, even if they hold it at bay with distractions and conveniences, eventually it will implode and cause the fulfillment of that fear.
Fami suggests that Death be eaten by Chainsaw Man as the concept of death will be erased.
This makes Death Devil pause for a bit.
Of course she knows about it but we are still unsure of how she actually feels about it.
It is so easy since Pochita’s rampage has shown the effects of being erased by Chainsaw Man.
Yet it is during Pochita’s rampage that Death Devil disappeared for the rest of the Aging Devil Arc even though Pochita’s awakening was planned by Death Devil due to her collusion with Barem and the Chainsaw Man Church/
The Death Devil suggests that Fami and Fake Chainsaw Man cooperate but they will remain in their dish form because she intends to eat them.
How does a human-sized woman intend to consume such a large plate?
There was an omake in one of the volumes that showed that Fami could consume ridiculously large amounts of food.
Crows gather around the dish and quickly consume them.
The presence of birds seems to be a running motif for the Horsemen as Makima might have used the birds around Tokyo as a way to see the faces or gather the names needed for her Death Note-like ability to crush the Yakuza goons.
Is this confirmation of a connection between birds and the powers of a Horseman or of the Control Devil specifically?
Since crows are scavengers that eat from corpses, it is fitting that they are the Death Devil’s means of consuming flesh.
The Death Devil then regurgitates the statue versions of Fami and Fakesaw Man, which is how we see the full explanation of her technique.
Rather than control “the starving”, the Death Devil actually kills her target but she happens to choose eating as a method of killing.
Eating food, or more importantly, enjoying meals, is a uniquely human experience that the Death Devil adopts and here, she says that it is her way of showing respect to the concept of life.
It is good manners to savor lives, she says.
The Death Devil, who embodies the fear of death, is the devil who most respects and cherishes life, such that she will do anything to avert the Great Terror.
Yet immediately after, she summons her new puppets, who initially attack her until they are restrained by the Falling Devil and are ordered by the Death Devil to plunge mankind into an abyss of terror.
Notice that she covers her right eye, almost like she is adopting a different persona.
A Head on a Silver Platter
The chapter serves not only as an explanation of the Death Devil’s Enslavement ability but it also brings up a massive reveal, that Nayuta was eaten by her own sister.
In Chapter 170: “How to Eat Sushi”, Barem Bridge brings Denji to a sushi restaurant and one of the orders Barem requested was the head of Nayuta, presented as sushi.
Nayuta’s head was served on a platter, as if it was meant to be eaten.
There was something rather off about the way Nayuta’s death was presented.
She was literally a head on a silver platter.
This may evoke the motif of St. John the Baptist, of a man’s head being danced around to please the wicked King Herod and his wife Herodias but as it turns out, this was a subtle hint to connect “Fami” to Nayuta’s death, which was something already speculated for a while now.
Fami was the one who recommended Denji to go to Sushishi since Denji lost his apartment.
She was already plenty suspicious but Nayuta’s head was a subtle hint that the one preparing that dish was not a human but the Falling Devil, Fami’s pawn obsessed with cooking meals made from humans.
This was not for mere display to traumatize Denji.
This was an actual meal for the Death Devil.
This was Death’s way of honoring the life of his sister.
Nayuta will not reincarnate as many have wondered since her death but instead, like Fami and Fakesaw Man, she, the Control Devil, will be a pawn of the Death Devil.
Control Controlled
With the full explanation of Death Devil’s powers, we now have solid confirmation that Chainsaw Man’s endgame will be truly brutal for Denji.
Now that Death is about to unleash the Great Terror with her pawns, this would also mean that Denji will live out the nightmare of Part 1’s final battle.
Why is that? Because this time, the Control Devil is his sister figure Nayuta and she is a pawn of Death.
In the Control Devil Arc, Makima brought an army made of the Weapon Devils that she manipulated to acquire Pochita.
With Part 2, it might be a similar situation, only this time Makima’s reincarnation, Nayuta, will be one of the pawns in Fami’s army of terror.
In an ironic twist, the Control Devil is controlled, no longer able to live a free human life.
Death Loves Life
The Death Devil is full of contrast: first in her characterization as Fami, the Famine Devil, yet she always tilts her head like she is on a noose and has pawns associated with not only the concept of death but the Death Devil herself.
Fire, using the name of justice, is a leading cause of death.
Falling, a Primal Devil like Death, is a leading cause of death.
The Guillotine is the ultimate machine of terror and death during the French Revolution.
Second, we have the contrast of the Death Devil’s appreciation for fun and human life but also a dark impulse to bring humanity towards terror.
Perhaps this is her way of making humanity appreciate life in spite of how empty the world feels.
By bringing humanity to its lowest point, the Death Devil’s hope is that they can either be pushed to fight back and defy the inevitability of death or even, like the Aging Devil desired, grow from the experience and finally love life the same way the Death Devil does.
Humans indulging in escapism or diversions away from death would make them callous or ignore that their lives will be cut short.
Perhaps the plan is not so much to fully end humanity precisely for the sake of death but to lead humanity towards life and there is quite a terror in that.
Chainsaw Man will reach 200 chapters after a 7-year run.
Will we see the beginning of the end there?
Chainsaw Man Chapter 200 will be released on April 15, 2025.
