Jujutsu Kaisen: Specialized Cursed Energy Traits Explained
We look at the three confirmed cases of special traits in Cursed Energy and how they add more diversity to Jujutsu Kaisen’s impressive power system.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s characters use cursed energy made from negative emotions to create and power up their techniques.
However, some Sorcerers have cursed energy with unique traits that are not seen in any other characters.
Cursed Energy Traits
Cursed energy traits make the user’s cursed energy feel different, giving off a unique texture or effect that cannot be defended or countered with Cursed Energy reinforcement alone.
The only reliable counter is extreme amounts of Cursed Energy to somewhat reduce the effects as shown as when Hakari was able to get away with just some numbness from hitting Hajime thanks to the infinite cursed energy bonus he received from his Domain’s jackpot
Hajime Kashimo’s Lightning Cursed Energy
The most visible case of cursed energy traits, Kashimo is called the God of Lightning due to how his cursed energy has the properties of an electric current that he emits almost by instinct.
As a result, all of Kashimo’s reinforced physical attacks can send electric shocks on impact, making his attacks near impossible to stop or defend against.
He is also resistant to electricity, as Sukuna’s Cursed Tool Kamutoke had no effect on him.
However, Kashimo’s main weakness is being doused in water, as releasing any Cursed Energy while drowning will result in him draining himself dry until it is completely depleted.
Kinji Hakari’s Edgy Cursed Energy
The first known case of Cursed Energy Traits, Kinji Hakari’s Cursed Energy is described by Gojo to have an “edge”, which makes his blunt attacks sharp and able to cut through flesh and metal.
No matter the amount of force, his opponents will experience sharp pain, with Yuji comparing it to being hit with a serrated bat or sandpaper according to Charles Bernard.
This is also without any relation to his Cursed Technique, Private Pure Love Train, which revolves around his supernatural luck.
Instead, this helps his specialization in Cursed Energy Reinforcement to increase the damage to his blows.
Yuka Okkotsu’s Slashing Cursed Energy
Yuka’s Cursed Technique, Savage Jaw Strike, emits cursed energy that possesses special traits, causing it to deal slashing damage upon contact with the enemy.
The cursed energy also seemingly stimulate keratin growth for the user’s nails to be as sharp as claws in order to mimic its jaw biting effect.
Debatable Cases:
Yuji Itadori’s Divergent Fist
While training with Satoru Gojo, it was discovered that Yuji’s cursed energy has a time lag due to his speed.
This particular way of describing Yuji’s Cursed Energy implies that this is a unique trait.
While Hakari has an elemental character to his and both Yuka and Hakari have unique textures, it seems that Yuji’s Cursed Energy has a natural lagging effect that is not seen in other Sorcerers.
