DENJI’S FINAL DEVIL GOD FORM REVEALED!! Chainsaw Man Chapter 222 Review!

Denji Man is about to change the entire story of Chainsaw Man in a whole new direction. How will he dictate its end?

In the previous Chainsaw Man chapter, Yoru seemingly annihilates Pochita with the Nuclear Punch from sacrificing the citizens of Virginia.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 222 is titled, “Denji Man”

This chapter has 15 pages.

The Pleasure of War

The chapter begins with Yoru dropping down from the sky after dealing a nuclear blow to Pochita and also destroying the summoned doors of Hell that were used as the floors for their battle.

Yoru apologizes when a nearby Devil dies next to her, symbolizing how seriously she takes her friendship with her own race.

On the grounds of Japan, she witnessed the victims of nuclear holocaust as we see couples holding each other while charred and others still alive but half their bodies are burnt or are covered in flames but still alive.

A woman begs for help from Chainsaw Man while glass shards pierce her and a part of her brain is exposed.

None of these people are dead since the Death Devil was erased in Chapter 219: “The Bereft”

Yet now there is greater fear than ever and Yoru is now feasting on the results.

In a deathless world, anyone who is hurt by War will never be free from the pain her power brings.

And so she is moved to tears full of joy.

She has finally obtained her dream world.

Peace Sign Lore

The woman whose brain is exposed gets closer to Chainsaw Man, begging him to save them but Yoru kicks her head away.

Again, this woman is still alive but she will be unable to reunite with her body.

However, her neck’s open wound splatters blood, which makes contact with Chainsaw Man.

This brings up an interesting question.

If Death no longer exists but people can still life with life-threatening injuries, can they be an infinite source of food for the Devils?

The rule is simple: as long as a piece remains, the human is alive.

Because there is no ultra-regeneration happening but a deathless state but if the whole body is consumed, is that the only way to fully kill someone or will they regenerate or be preserved inside the bodies of those that consume them?

Is there any difference between being eaten or being trapped in an acid pool?

Anyway, Yoru declares her victory now that Chainsaw Man cannot move.

Once the world descends into hatred and anarchy, the War World will be complete, so Yoru is grateful to Denji for erasing Death and realizing this outcome.

Declaring that the loser belongs to the winner, Yoru attempts to weaponize Denji but is still figuring out a name for her new weapon.

Super, no ultra.

Ultra what?

Ultra Chainsaw?

But to weaponize, Yoru sticks out her right hand as an open palm.

And Denji wakes up, sticking out a peace sign or scissors sign.

His face emerging from Pochita’s mouth, Denji says that they are playing rock-paper-scissors.

Yoru then says a weapon name: Ultra Chainsaw Gun.

But it does not work!

Essentially, Yoru entertained the thought that (1) she was playing rock-paper-scissors with Denji and (2) that she had lost because her hand was clearly defeated by Denji’s scissors.

Even for a moment, doubt came and so Yoru was unable to weaponize Denji.

There is a lot of meaning here.

Recently, we have seen the Denji peace sign in different Chainsaw Man media.

The peace sign was also shown in the Iris Out opening sequence.

A What-If illustration of Denji and Reze showed both Denji and Reze making the peace sign.

It is a subtle message and foreshadowing by Fujimoto where this peace sign would be used in the final battle against the War Devil.

Thematically, the peace sign is an emerging narrative tool in Chainsaw Man.

In Part 1, this was primarily associated with Kobeni, who often makes peace signs when she panics and Himeno instructed her to make “double peace signs” to test a theory regarding the looping floors they suddenly found themselves on during the Eternity Devil Arc.

Denji reinvents the peace sign into three things at the same time.

Denji’s first intent is to make Yoru play rock-paper-scissors and shows scissors.

But the scissors sign is also a peace sign, as in the opposite of war.

Now it is a sign of victory.

V for Victory is a peace sign.

And that is a victory owned by humanity.

Denji tricked Yoru into imagining herself being defeated in a simple game of rock-paper-scissors.

Considering how autism-coded both Yoru and Asa are, it is also no surprise that such a thougth would stick in their heads tightly too.

More thematically, by claiming victory with a V or peace sign, Denji is stating that humans now write the rules.

God, or in this case, the Death Devil, is dead and a new morality has taken place.

What will take the place of the value of death now that the world is without it?

Denji is the answer.

Denji Man is Denji’s FINAL EVOLUTION

Denji’s body explodes in power, claiming that Pochita’s powers and his “high school genius” (for someone who did not even finish his first year, let alone his first semester) combined to create.

Denji Man!

We are seeing Denji mature more and more as a person throughout this one arc.

It almost feels like Chainsaw Man’s Gear 5 moment or how Fire Force’s Shinra Kusakabe awakened Shinrabanshō-man.

Thematically, it is more similar to Shinrabanshō-man because it is a fusion mode, fusing Denji and Pochita into a single entity rather than switching between Denji, who adopts the Hybrid form, and Pochita, who reawakens his original Devil form.

Shinra’s final form was an attempt to rewrite the equation of life.

The world of Fire Force is controlled by despair, as the despair of humans became the godlike Evangelist, a fate that dictated the human desire for everyon and everything to die.

Because people fear for their lives and yet live their lives full of fear, Shinra decides to rewrite the laws of nature by devaluing life itself and making death less threatening.

By bringing death closer to home in the cycle of life and death rather than as a distant fear, Shinra was able to make life more enjoyable.

Denji’s route is the opposite, as he has completely erased Death and now must create something else in its place in a deathless world where pain is more permanent.

Both forms come from a similar principle: replacing the rules of the world with a different god.

But for Shinra, it was Lord Death of Soul Eater.

For Denji, what will it be?
