Why Did Uryu Join Wandereich?

In season one of Bleach Thousad-Year Blood War, we saw Uryu learning about Quincy history from his master book he found in the study of his father, Ryuuken Ishida.

Through this study, he learned the truth about Yhwach and discovered Auswahlen.

Uryu find his father reaseach book

Auswahlen is Yhwach’s ability, which allows him to absorb the powers of any Wuincy he wants. This results in the death of the victim, Quincy.

To know more about Yhwach, you can consider reading our article on the father of Quincy.

Uryu learned that nine years ago, when the father of Quincy started gaining power, he used the same technique to absorb the powers of every Gemischt Quincy, or those he considered impure.

One of the victims of this was Uryu’s mother, Kanae Katagiri, who was a Gemischt Quincy.

After learning the truth, Uryu took the path of revenge and joined Wandereich to avenge her.

What Is Uryu’s Plan?

Uryu knew that Yhwach was too strong to be defeated, so he planned to destroy the Warwelt itself and put a stop to Yhwach’s plan.

In chapter 660, while fighting Ichigo, Uryu drops the Sun key and asks Ichigo to take Orihime and Sado, use the key teleprot to the Sun Gate, which is connected to the human world, and leave Warwelt.

Uryu then reveals to Ichigo that he plans to take down Warwelt itself.

The Quincy states that he has planted a special destruction chip all over the citadel of Warwelt. Once activated, these chips will accumulate all the reishi and destroy that citadel.

Uryu chose this path because these chips were passed down to him from his master, and thus he is the only one who can activate these destruction chips.
