Boichi’s latest manga faces a hiatus after much criticism and a prolonged hiatus

On October 9, 2026, it was announced that “The Marshal King” by Boichi, the illustrator behind Dr. Stone, will end in Chapter 34 in Shonen Jump Plus, to be released on October 16th.

Final Volumes 4 and  5 will be out on November 4th and January 4th, respectively.

Originally released on February 7, 2025, the series was critiqued for its extremely fast pacing and in spite of Boichi’s excellent art, his character designs lack uniqueness, being similar to his previous works.

However, the most likely reason is because, Boichi took a 9-month hiatus.

The hiatus happened because Boichi was originally set to work as the main artist on a different project—a spin-off of Masanori Morita’s classic manga titled Rokudenashi Blues Side-Story: Onikazura.

However, plans changed behind the scenes and Boichi was ultimately replaced on that project. Because that project fell through for him, he turned his focus back to The Marshal King.

Boichi is the artist behind the hit science manga Dr. Stone and the spinoff, One Piece Episode: A.

He is also author of two hit Japanese manga, “Sun-Ken Rock” (2006-2016) and “Origin” (2016-2019) and has also done some Korean works such as “Param in the sky and the stars” and “Super String: Marco Polo’s Travel to Multiverse”, the latter being serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday.

About The Marshal King

This story follows Jimmu Godspeed, the son of a notorious outlaw who claims to have killed his own father.

Rather than follow in his father’s footsteps, Jimmu sets out to become a U.S. Marshal in a lawless, post-apocalyptic Wild West.
